Just a quick note to let you know that version 2.0 has finally been released.

It has a totally rewritten installer so uninstall your old version first - after that any new versions will take care of upgrading things automatically.
The new version has a heap of fixes and enhancements including 'tip of the day' and some step by step guides.

It also has a Vegas XML import and for the 'Standard' edition a limited ProTools v5 import function (12 tracks, 4 clips or 4 audio files)
This was rather than force everyone to pay for ProTools functionality that they don't need.
We have already started on a ProTools export function and we have import of Audition's native SES files for v1.5, 2.0. 3.0 & some versions of Cool Edit Pro already running in beta versions.

A lot of effort has gone into this one so I hope you find it useful.

Yes, that right. An uninstall still keeps your Standard ver reg no, If you want unrestricted PT functions there is a $40 update option.

Lets see our first release we had a price of $99, we dropped it to $39 then added a heap of stuff including ProTools and raised it to $59 including free updates. And we also gave everyone around 3 weeks warning to buy at the $39 price.

Well crap? Live 7, Logic 8, and Digital Performer 5, (obviously mac) user here.
If there's any way to get you to think about a mac version, plus Live 8 and DP7 support?

An actual mac version is probably unlikely - its just a heap of different coding that I have no real experience with.

However the app currently reads mac pt5 files and converts sd2 to wav so nothings impossible. By that I mean its possible to make it so the app reads those files (DP, Live etc) you would just have to boot into some sort of pc emulator to run the app.

The main problems for us are
1. Access to the data - we don't run every daw
2. Time it takes to decode
3. Time it takes to write & test
4. The large list of daws we are currently looking at

So mac just complicates things even further

Not sure how I can help? I'm one of those rare people who've never used PCs for business or for pleasure. I started off in Digital Performer, and switched to Logic before the were bought by Apple, and recently started using Live more than the others.

Also I'm not a coder. I suppose if you were willing to expand your business model the logical thing to do would be to work with an OSX developer and make a unified codebase etc. The obvious advantage to this would be that you could eventually get 99% of the DAWs on the market! Pretty cool, and useful to a HUGE amount of pros! so at least a couple thousand copies sold! Probably something like 10K worldwide as a guess? add to that a 99-$125 price tag and....

Pretty much every mac based (and most of them are) Pro Tools studio would buy a copy. How dead easy would it be for them to take projects people started in Fruity Loops if you guys did it right? You're on to something here, I wouldn't squander a good idea on a lack of knowledge of OSX or revulsion at Prop Tools, no matter how justified.

Not everyone needs to move between daws and in fact most people (including myself) don't.

Anyway the main reason we did this was to see if we actually could do this - trouble is it is really chewing into our lives in a big way

Anyway just trying to finish off the next version with CEP & AA session import as well as Vegas XML export then its on to the following version.

We have been hard at it since the last release (which wasn't that long ago) and we now have a new release available (v2.1).

This release is also a free upgrade and it is our intention to continue to provide free updates for as long as possible.

This release adds the following features to an already impressive list of conversion possibilities.

I don't quite get it: you include Logic in the main list; does that mean some version of Logic that ran on windows?

I have Logic 8. And Cubase (5.0.1) projects, created using OSX. This is a non-starter for me, OSX only, yes/no?

As I recall the later versions of Logic all Import and Export to the OpenTL format - (maybe earlier ones as well?).

AATranslator currently reads OpenTL files (mac or PC) just like it reads PT v5 session files created on either a mac or PC. We will be including the ability to write OpenTL files in a version real soon.

If you want to send me one of your Logic OpenTL sessions (no audio) or OSx Cubase Track Archive (xml) sessions (no audio) I'd be happy to have a crack at converting it for you to some other format and that should settle it - yes?

Yes Runaway is right, all the latest Mac only & going back a while to the PC & Mac days, Logic Imports & exports Open TL files.
To export the current project's audio in the OpenTL format, choose File > Export > Project as OpenTL File.

You can run AATranslator on a Mac by using Parallels or Bootcamp. As it is quite possible to do your conversions on a computer other than the one with your DAW software on it then you could just run AATranslator on a PC. It should be quite possible to get the information to flow between the Mac & PC using a network connection, I have done this quite successfully using other formats like PT5 but haven't tested this yet with Open TL.

Just a quick update...

We have finally got to the point of testing our next version of AATranslator which will include a function to import an OMF2 file and probably Avid's ALE format as well.

It has taken quite a bit of effort to work out OMF - for something thats supposedly 'industry standard' its amazing just how different they all are depending upon the daw involved
