Shamanix, the wherewithall re. this beast is a bank of 10 OSCs and a white/pink noise source. The keyboard does not affect the OSCs, but the filters. so there will be a few settings re the notes produced by the 10 OSCs, but the filter ( played by the keyboard ) will decide what resonant band ( also controllable ) gets through ... Like with an organ pipe, air goes in, and only that air which vibrates obediently gets out! ... add some tones, and .... hee hee hee!

... Oh, and if you didnt know, all participants get the participants prize, plus a free choice of all previous participants prizes from previous OSCs! The ultimate incentive for first time OSC participants!! :)

Post

Right, just gonna do a bit more work on this participants prize ... then I hope to do my reviews and cast a vote.

Anymore ideas re. next comp?

Post

The sq8l thing seems pretty cool..I might be able to start on a track, freaking Komplete was on back order and still hasn't arrived, got a few more weeks..should have stuck to this sfxr song even though it reeked pretty terribly. :hihi:

btw I just went eurofishin!

Post

Ha ha ... a lot to be said for the ol' freebie downloads then :hihi: .. seriously though, hope the Komplete package tickles you in all the right places ... on the strength of your previous stuff, I hope you can throw something at us for the next comp! :)

SQ8L is looking good for the next comp, but theres still time to push for something new/different/better/stranger/easier/harder ...etc.

Got some progress going on the participants prize ... wish I had more time, cos it's sounding really bloody good! ... having said that, I'm glad I extended the voting period ... might just be able to use that extra time to knock the beast into a pleasant enough form!

Post

OK, sorry, didn't manage to do that critical detailed listen, review, vote thing .... got a bit tied up with my organ! :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

.... Manana ... zzzz!

Post

OK, this organ is sounding great! ... I'll def have it ready to give as a participants prize! :)

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Stop teasing us that much :hihi:
(btw. i'll be also in - in the next contest. Couse i maybe have like 4-5 Weeks Holiday that time *jay!")

PS: How about this new free thing?
AGONYX 2 synthesizer

Post

ha ha ... cheers MA-Simon .... you wont have to wait much longer, cos I got 16 presets and a half decent skin put together tonight, and its very nearly ready!

A bit heavy on cpu, but I cant imagine it could be anything else given the amount of OSCs and filters which contribute to it's rich, deep, thick sound ... ha ha ... there I go again! ... yeah, I'm proud of this beast!!

It just remains for me to calibrate the output levels, and ascertain that I am allowed to use Kriminals sliders, and we're done!

Anyway .... hows that vote going?? :)
...and those ideas for the next comp?

Post

OK, a bit more teasing ....

Image

.... its all done really, Kriminal just needs to confirm they are indeed his sliders ( easier to do now there's a screenie posted :) ), and we're rockin!

Post

OK, Kriminal has given the nod, so all participants will get a link sent by PM as soon as I can sort the folder out etc.
As usual, prize donators will also be offered the opportunity to 'raid the stash' ... ! :)

Post

Oh, and by sheer coincidence, I discovered that 'Felix' ( mentioned earlier as a candidate for a future OSC, is one of Kriminal's creations!

... So I took the opp to download it :)

I'll give it a whirl later.

Post

OK, that's the links sent out for the participants prize(s) :)

'Oxyrgan' is not particularly complicated to use, so I wont bother with a manual ....

Reading along the top of the panel ... theres a drop down waveform selector. This decides the wave output of 10 oscillators. Then you have a 'key' selector and then a 'config' selector. between then, they set the 10 oscs to a range of notes which feed the filters.

Lets ignore the rest of the top row for now and look at the lower array of sliders.

The filters are tuned to the keyboard... The 'res' control decides the extent of the tuning.

There are 9 sliders which are like drawbars, spanning 6 octaves. Additionally, between the 1st and 4th octaves, there are 3 sliders tuned to the '5th' note in the octave ( so the control labelled '3+5' is 3 octaves + a fifth note above the fundamental )

The 'key' and 'config' settings will affect the character and range of notes/chords across the spectrum ... the downside is that some notes, depending on these settings, will be louder/softer/stronger/weaker than others even within an octave. The 'noise' control can produce a feed which will fill these gaps if desired.

Along from the 'drawbars, there is an ADSR, and a master volume ... if you want to know more about these, start a thread an feed the trolls!! :)

OK, back to the top row ... There we have the LFO. Because the filters are double tuned in series, the 'gentle' setting will sound more like a tremolo/rotation in some cases .... the 'severe' setting modulates both filters in each serial pair equally producing more of a vibrato effect.

The portamento affects filters and waveforms equally ( unfortunately! ... would have been nice to spend time on using different values for filter and note feed values! ) ... so its just a plain ol' porta!

Mono? Could be more handy in this beast than in any other I've done to date .... 10 Oscs and 18 filters take their toll! What you get in richness, you pay for in cpu cycles! .... therefore I have limited the polyphony to 4!

.... perhaps unecessarily! ... I have a tiny computer by most folks standards, and 8xpoly on this beast chokes me! ... you might ( probably will ) find this less of a prob on your bloody fancy ' make the tea an' toast whilst processing 96 tracks' machine, but for now, my plug's good enough 'til I hear otherwise! :hihi:

OK, so copy and paste the above and call it a manual!

Now ... where were we? ... yeah ... voting for a track! .... Aaaargh, it's toooo difficult! .... OK, it's gonna have to wait .... from tomorrow, I got 4 gigs in a row .... but I will be back home in between .... now the ol' Oxyrgan is done, I can do it! :) .... ( actually, I'm pretty sure how my vote is gonna go ... maybe I should stop thinking too much and just poke the box! )

Post

Hey! I'm winning!!! :) ( ... kiss of death :hihi: )

... well, err ... bump!
