Hmmm... the Archos 5 Internet Tablet perhaps?
I'm certain there are more. I have seen the cropping up on Engadget for the last three-four months.

Also, looking forward to a Vaio tablet. Once again, Sony will show everyone how it's done (and charge everyone through the nose, of course
)

I just love how PC people just hate mac for no reason.
Just like the iPhone this will be a huge hit and is filling a whole new catagory in the market.
YES there were mp3 players before iPod, but who the f**k cares. This is Apple so you know it will be slick, intuitive and have millions of 3rd party apps.
And yes of course there will be tons of synthesizers, performance, sequencers etc. apps. Don't fool yourself. When was the last time Apple made a huge flop? Early 90s maybe?

And apart from their core desktops and laptops when did they make something that wasn't just a toy?fridtjof wrote: When was the last time Apple made a huge flop? Early 90s maybe?

Maybe it will fail, I don't know. But the reason this thing exists is to sell books, newspaper subscriptions. That's why they have the agreements with publishers. Combine that with web and simple personal computing (pics, music etc). Steve jobs is (apparently) quoted as saying its the most important thing apple have done. They want to reinvent the publishing industry. Its not about being a laptop replacement, why would you bother? Laptops exist and are great. It's a new thing.
Not that I'm buying one, not that I firmly believe it will be a huge success, but I think you're all missing the point. Remember all the "so what?"s when the iPod came out? Lots of people here seem to hate apple (mostly inexplicably IMHO) but Mr Jobs is a pretty visionary kind of character and I'm sure not betting against it being huge.
We'll see soon enough I guess.

Mighty mouse comes as the standard mouse with iMacs, its just a multitouch mouse, how is that a huge flop? Air was just a sleeker, lighter version of macbook, just something for the big spenders.Reverse Engineer wrote:mighty mouse, air, apple tv. there's probably more, but i wont get back to you.
Apple TV had problems, but it was hardly a strange concept to have a remote controlled minicomputer for use with TV screens, might not have been the huge success they thought it would be, but still quite a few i know use it.
Can't you guys just swallow the fact that Apple is hugely successful company that make solid and easy to use products.
Of course just go ahead and flame about how they only have a small percentage of the computer marked and that theyre overpriced and so fourth. Cant be said it enough times around here.

Apple just plagiarises ideas, adds gloss and fools people into thinking they are great. Style over content. Bought by the fashion victims of modern technology. If you look into the failure rate of thier current line up of products, it dosnt justify the price.fridtjof wrote:Mighty mouse comes as the standard mouse with iMacs, its just a multitouch mouse, how is that a huge flop? Come on. This is beyond ridiculous. Say that this isn't anything great and you're automatically an Apple hater to the Cult.
This is not anything great. An iPhone is a very cool device. It made everyone else play catch-up, not feature-wise, but rather GUI-wise and in intuitiveness of control. Plus, you can keep it in your pocket, make phone calls etc.
What does this thing have that other tablets don't? Nothing much. Get a Kindle app for your Windows tablet you BOOM, here's your e-reader. Multitouch? Windows 7 is multitouch enabled. I'll tell you what it doesn't have instead:
1. a full OS.
2. multitasking (seriously?)
3. the usual beautiful looks of an Apple device.
4. a purpose.
Go on, call me a hater. This may even sell in huge quantities, what with all the hype and every tech blog jizzing their pants over a run-of-the-mill half-PC with limited connectivity and proprietary processor/everything. But that doesn't change the fact that it looks half-baked and poorly thought-out.
I call it a misstep by Apple. I may be proved wrong but I'm certainly not getting one of these.

Exactly. You nay-sayers miss the point. The iPhone didn't really offer anything earth shatteringly new either. As a matter of fact, I think you could probably find a product that had more features than the iPhone when it was released. That's not the key to why Apple is successful. The key is that they know how to integrate features, UI and connectivity in ways that no one does better. I currently use a Toshiba laptop now for surfing around and frankly I'd sell it in a heartbeat to get one of these not because it'll do more (it won't, in fact probably a lot less), but it'll do what it does better and more elegantly. Plus, my guess is that we'll now see manufacturers like Ableton come out with apps for seamless control integration. I bet the Jazzmutant Lemur's not long for the world when these types of apps start hitting.
Also, size matters. I've got a few synth/music apps that are cool, but frankly a bit crap on a screen the size of an iphone. Same things on something the size of an iPad become a whole different game.

Oh please allow me to explain...
Petty little people have a natural tendency to hate just about any product they can't afford.
Especially if it's destined to be ever so popular with rich kids, cult members, people with decent jobs, etc.
Remember kids...Everything is impossible until it's actually done.
