Which t-racks single plug in do you recommend?

I have to say if I'm being honest I wasn't overly impressed with the fairchild. No idea if its like the real thing or not as I've never used one, but it wasn't really giving me the kinda mojo I was perhaps hoping for.
I also noticed that all the presets that came with it raise the volume considerably, giving a hyped louder = better response.
Having said that, using it in M/S mode does yield some very interesting results!
If I was to recommend just one of the singles plugs, it would have to be the Opto compressor. Lovely sound, solid and transparent, pretty versatile can put it on anything.

About the "louder = better" the "Compare" feature on the shell lets you dial the level to be the same on both to better avoid that perception. Just an FYI. Thanks!

Although I DO buy products that emulate hyped vintage gear, I still find this text :
What will you say to someone who was to tell you that driving THIS thing "feels
EXACTLY like driving a Ferrari Testarossa" ?? can you PROVE it's NOT ?
Sorry to invade the topic... and I DO know that the V word is a golden selling point... but
common, development guys... time to develop NEW things that are not based on "vintage gear", and
let us judge...
there's someone here, "The G Force" that already does that...
...To be intriguing and absurd - at the same time (in the virtual world)...Arksun wrote:No idea if its like the real thing or not as I've never used one

Professional technicians are assessed by the abilities they possess.
Amateur technicians are assessed by the tools they possess - and the amount of those tools, with an obvious preference to the latest hyped ones.

I'm not quite sure I understand why thats an absurd statement?. I've never used a real Fairchild compressor, thats just a statement of fact. I'm also one of those that doesn't particuarly care for exact authenticity of a plugin trying to emulate something. I got it as part of the amazing group buy they did a while back. Either it sounds good to me or it doesn't, that's all I really care aboutTp3 wrote:Although I DO buy products that emulate hyped vintage gear, I still find this text :

Well, you can't emulate the feeling of driving a Ferrari in software.
But you can emulate the sound of a vintage piece of hardware gear, so that's all we need for music

No one would ever confuse a Fiat with a Ferrari but you'll never know just how wide the chasm is between them until you've driven them both. "If it sounds right... it must be right" but there's always the possibility of it getting more right.Tp3 wrote:What will you say to someone who was to tell you that driving THIS thing "feels

Ohhhh....Arksun wrote:I'm not quite sure I understand why thats an absurd statement?. I've never used a real Fairchild compressor, thats just a statement of fact.
L. ,you take my statement as something PERSONAL and it was NOT meant to be like that. as it did, I'm deeply
sorry
What I was trying to say is that I find it absurd that people (MYSELF INCLUDED !) base their buying decision
upon some piece of a legend they have NEVER HEARD (that is why it is a legend
conceived as $hit - so I was told by a "Vintage" technician - and only much later have they received their
"legend" status). people just "know" it is good because it was used by this-and-that at that-and-that fancy
studios, near "somewhere road"...
And ** I ** find this fact intriguing and absurd...
These days, being SO difficult to tell processors one from another... that statement should be taken with a grain of salt.... (NOT YOUR statement but the GENERAL STATEMENT that says the same thing...I could have gone to great lengths and prove that this statement - about us "trusting first and foremost our ears" - is WRONG ...and back myself with PROVEN researches... but I'll spare you the burdenArksun wrote:I'm also one of those that doesn't particularly care for exact authenticity of a plugin trying to emulate something. Yea, I guess so... but how to you define "many" (or even "many many") ? I'm sure that if you'll COMBINE thePeter - IK Multimedia wrote:...not to mention there are plenty of people who HAVE used them, and many many more than that who have heard them used
people that own (or owned) AND the people who heard them (and KNOW it was them...) - you'll be like... umm...
1/1000k of the virtual user base ?...

Some wise (VERY wise) "Vintage" technician has taught my years ago something that I like (although it is
REALLY hard to apply these days) :

Not really. No need to argue numbers - the listeners who have heard the gear far outnumber the people who can/will/might buy it. THOSE are the "many many more"
I didn't take a head count, but it's a lot more than the people who actually create the sound.

Indeed! I've always said that pro quality home recording hurts more than it helps, simply because we keep striving to make what we've done better rather than putting it to bed and moving on to the next project. This has certainly been my biggest fault over the last 10 years.Wise engineer wrote:When it comes to knowing your tools, the SWORN enemy of "The Good" is "Even Better !"
Actually, the point you've made fits perfectly with the Opto, which doesn't sound like a real LA2A or the CL1B plug-in but is cool and unique in its own way.

Exactly - the Opto sounds just like the hardware version of which only one single unit exists
