Much better! love it! It reminds me of like a dark version of Port Blue's rhythm mixed with Modeselektor's funky sound composition with a bit of MGMT's trippy side. This is slick. I wish i could get my mixes to be as clear as yours are.

excellent brutalism--i think this track has a savage sort of forward momentum that just pulls you along for the ride whether you want to go with or not, if you take my meaning. i was just thinking that rachmiel's latest piece has a great feeling of space and along comes this piece that also does that 3-dimensional thing so well, even with just a pair of headphones. the progression of the piece as it sort of deconstructs itself in the middle and then reassembles as something much more ominous (esp. with the guitar) was very interesting.

Very kewl. Love how the tempo slows, stops, then picks up again. How do you do that within a DAW?

It's all math. The drum pattern goes from 4/4 to 5in4 time, 6in4 time, half time and 9in4. Nothing in the daw changes, I just add more space between each drum hit and the rest of the instruments follow the drums. As long as you keep an idea of how the different timings relate to the grid over all, you get deceleration that stays related to the original time base.

I listen to this and I am, after so many years of listening and admiring your work, in awe of how good your music is. It's actually quite humbling and even frustrating that I can't achieve today what you could do 6 years ago and you continue to grow more skilled.

very intense and very emotional. probably more than any other piece i've heard of yours this feels like a direct expression of your fire/passion/(torment?). i agree that the wobble bass gets distracting, undermines some of the piece's strength, so i prefer the non-wobble version. but i'm not sure that getting rid of the wobble completely is the ideal solution; when it works it's very cool!

On second thought, after a few listens, vocals would probably f**k it up. The vibe is too perfect just as it is. I might still give a remix a go though, just for the hell of it.

I think room could be made for vocals. I think if you made it more guitar-centric, thinned out the busy-ness of the drums, and played down the synth parts vox would fit nicely. I really like hearing vocals on stuff like this, it's a real challenge to mix but when it's thoughtfully done, it works.

If you'd like, I can provide some of the un-edited guitar and electric bass parts. It'd be really cool to hear what you'd play though.

I think that the more un-edited performances work their way into my finished pieces, the more you get a kind of un-edited portrait of me. I guess you could say that has been the theme of the last few months. I find that I'm eschewing my polite/cordial nature and letting the chaos that usually only comes out in my music, come out more in my personal life. My wife loves it! Other people... not so much.

I'm working out a new approach to the bass department... In Oceanside I introduced the bass part as this dominating force in the mix and then filtered out everything but the sub-freqs later one to let other sounds come through. You still got cues of it's character periodically but only enough to maintain it's presence. I think I'd like to do something similar here but I think I'm going to let the electric bass parts take over in a lot of places too. Who knows though, that might take another few months though.
