Thanks for the vote and the comments, Archon! :) I was writing my post while you were posting yours, so I only just saw it. I see from what you wrote that I wasn't that far in picturing the meaning of your song; that means you did a good job! :)

The way I made this piece was.. i think it's 132 bpm in Renoise.

One day I had a piece, with this ending. The next day, I threw away the whole first part of the piece, and simply set the 'interval' (in 16th notes) to '21 or 22.' I entered a few notes, set the interval to 20, and so forth, down to '1'. Then I did the same thing with 2 other lines, beginning at '7' and '14' or thereabouts (going 22,21,20 etc. like the first line).

When it got down around '2' or thereabouts with the intervals, I just kind of 'winged it' with all 3 lines Then, the lines were 'expanded out' back to an interval of '21' or thereabouts.

To give all of these 'rhythmically uneven' bits some continuity, I put in a simple 'bass line,' counting off straight beats.... 1,2,3,4.

The ending just kind of 'plays around in melodic minor.'

Anyway, i find that trackers easily lend themselves to this sort of 'mathematical experimentation.'

Thanks for the votes!

thanks for the votes and comments! Forgot to mention my synth suggestion. What I would like to see is change (if not too extreme) from the regular rules for a contest:

- use one or two virtual synths, any brand, free or paid
- you can submit a piece you've written in the past, or a new one

The reason I would like to see this contest is because a lot of people will post some of their very best synth works, I'm sure. Too extreme?

Wrong thread, you should post this in the general OSC thread http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=4305672

Synth suggestion: SuperWave P8

Hey, where's everybody? :)

Hi Mac, it's been kind of slow on this thread... maybe it's the weather... i hear the 'isles' are snowed under... and that it's been snowing in paris...

how's your weather? unusual? it's been raining a bit here lately ('seattle')

I'm in deep south east asia for the whole month. Lovely temps, but of course no music or equipment at all. Will miss the any-synth OSC which would have been good. I have all the NR2010 songs on my phone and have been going through them a few times already, but now the earbuds broke just before final check prior to vote. But will get a replacement soon so they should be in shortly.

Ok, here are my votes:
TIRING_YEARS - Mac of BIOnighT-----5 points.
Can't Stop the Rain - Mick Rippon--4 points.
Stickly Stickleston - Gegech-------3 points.
BigHorny - tattiemannie------------2 points.
Fractured Planet - Mike777---------1 point.

Next synth- I have no idea at the moment, I'll post that later.

Thanks all for the show! And thank you GTG, for your excellent synths.

A while back, I was copying a track for ear training purposes, and I got really dis-satisfied with the overall sound. I replaced everything with GTG synths, and it sounded alot better. Not trying to advertise or anything

DramaNoMore, thank you for the vote!! I know what you mean about GTG synths, I made a whole album using only those, they've got a very definite personality and sound great :)

V'ger, what are you doing over there? In any case, maybe you can do some nice field recordings to use when you come back!

mrblitz000, weather here is still going through spells of unusually mild climate, to the point that insects and spiders are coming out again... mind, it is cold, but it's more like a cold-but-in-a-while-spring'll-come kind of thing - odd. I wonder how many people can have a hard time believeing the Earth is headed for a major - and not particulalrly positive - climate shift.

over the past day or two, we had over 3 inches of rain at sea-tac airport... one place out on the coast had 7 inches... that's a lot for around these parts...

For us here rain is very common, my town is on the lake and its flooding the roads is not such an unusual occurrence :( It's very suggestive when it happens, though.

Paternity leave/holiday. 5 weeks of beaching and lounging with the kid and missus. Well deserved if you ask me.. ;)

No music while here so I'll return fresh and eager. Means I will miss the any-synth which is a shame but might make RMXL which is anyway one of my favs atm.

Field recordings like you say is a brilliant idea, but have no real equipment for it.

Wow, congratulations! And 5 weeks like that are a very good idea ;-)
BTW; is it a boy or a girl?

If you have an iphone or something like that, don't underestimate its mic: FaBIO and I used some sounds he recorded on BIOnighT's latest album as well as in the next one, and you'd be amazed by the quality of the recordings when you hear it on your stereo...

For MIDI I can suggest:

SunVox - simple tracker, with modular synthesis and sampler. You can render *.wav file directly on your mobile, you can open file in native format on your PC using Win/OSX/Linux version of SunVox, or export *.mid file for later work in your DAW. For iPhone/iPad, WinCE, PalmOS.

Vibe - for older phones with Mobile Java support. Downside is that manufacturer site is down, and you won't be able to convert your compositions into *.mid files and download it to your computer - you'll have to rewrite composition note by note by yourself. It's still great tool to use!

This is what I use...
