My experience buying and using the Inde pro 2.5.4 was that it is an excellent library. I actually like the interface in that it is pretty efficient. The mixer section and effects are top notch. The one thing I don't like is that there seems to be very little in the way of secondary support....I mean the forum is pretty much a wasteland...and I wish there were some useful tutorials. Their manual ( PDF )is very well written. I had troubles using the E file authorizations during the fire sale. The issues were resolved with in a few days. I can imagine what they have going on is that they probably don't have 200 employees like NI might. Their web support seems to be run by a small number of people. One other feature that blows any other sampler out of the water is that it hosts third part VST's and VSTi's inside it's interface and routes the audio through it's internal mixer. It's a superb sound designers tools. It sounds top rate through out. They have some features that the competition doesn't touch...plain and simple. I think Kontakt is has a wanky interface...but you can't touch the third party support and it's scripting gives it a whole other world of possibilities. Choose your weapon, but you can't beat the sale price that's going on.

Looking at the 3.0 manual, activation looks a cinch - standard challenge and response (as I've done with Spectrasonics, Toontrack etc). What's the problem? Does it just not work? Or is this a new version?

Their whole Web based area of the company needs attention. This is their sales and support path and it's nearly always broken. They even break out their different pages as separated entities. The standard challenge and response didn't work as simply as it sounds from my experience..... maybe that will change this time around. Last time It took three different codes and several emails back and forth to get it sorted out. Well it seems maybe it wasn't totally sorted out because my serial number isn't being recognized when I try to Purchase the upgrade. It just seems be a lot stops and starts getting things worked out and it's frustrating...but I like the product, so I keep wading into the waters.

I've had it for 6 months(purchased just before the free upgrade time)and it crashes all the time on osx. So I never use it hoping that an update will fix it and now I have to pay for an upgrade to use a product that never worked to begin with. Yellow tools...fail.

I've got a system where Candy will not run on it. The sampler refuses to see the files.
If you are into programming samplers, it's no Kontakt. Even the abandoned VSampler is a better sampler.
I was never able to post on their forums after registering to solve my problem.
The tech support did attempt to help but it seems the problem resolved around their elicenser. (read what Justin Frankel says about copy protection in Tape Op) I get the impression resource were wasted on the wrong thing.
I've already been screwed when Tascam dropped Gigastudio. This problem I've had with YT makes me hesitant to drop even the small upgrade price for Independence.
Lack of bug fixes between versions can be a red flag. I would also shy away from anything that uses their sampling engine.
Kontakt is king as far as stability and variety. I actually programmed some sounds in Kontakt, VSampler, Independence 2.5 and Reason's NN-XT. Only one sampler made crackling sounds moving quickly among the keys and that was Independence.
I would caution throwing even the smallest amount of money at a company who hasn't done much to improve the existing product or established some decent customer support.

That's probably because even those who registered couldn't post any messages. Not a good sign to have a buggy forum.Kraznet wrote:Yes I noticed that although it's pretty dead even when it's upGreyLion wrote:Well, their forum is now down. Interesting.

I doubt they will win many back. That 29 euro may be best spent on a sample library from producerloops, zero-g, ect. I've never had problems with those.GreyLion wrote:
I actually find this pricing structure a little terrifying. Too good to be true, and all that. Unless they're trying to make up for all their screw-ups this year, and rescue their business.

This should be a free upgrade. This latest update says to me " We actually had to get out of bed to do some work so we have to charge you". I'm not going near yellow tools again.

did anybody get their 3.0 free upgrade yet?
which email address do you send to? it says you get the 3.0 files IMMEDIATELY after emailing.
This is stupid. Their website should know when you activated your product. They should simply have the links in your profile to 3.0 free update, instead of having to send an email to "support".

Over a period of a year or two I bought several download instruments to fill my needs as I was working on projects. And then in the last year and a half they started these insane sales which was only to add insult to injury!
Meanwhile I was struggling along with an idiotic unreliable sound module that would frequently claim my instruments were not activated. Am on my last activation for most of them I think and Christian no longer responds to any of my emails.
Instruments that are activated won't open on other DAWs on the same PC, and Independence crashes Reaper now, which is now the main system I use. I can only get it to work sometimes on EnergyXT.
I'm over Yellow Tools! Am saving my 99 Euro for someone who can write an Independence Instrument player! Save up for Kontakt guys. Think of yourselves as a technician who needs tools that work reliably, even if they don't fulfil every possible dream!

I never had an issue with their software since version 2.5 of Free and also not with the Pro version.noiseboyuk wrote:OK. 99 Euros for the 70GB Independence Pro. I've had Independence Free for some time, like it, find it high quality.
But I'm more than aware that people have had some terrible experiences with YT, and have recorded experiences spread across many threads over a long time. With this new promotion, I (and I'm sure others) would be grateful if people could as concisely as possible describe good / bad experiences, including resolution (if any). Cheers!

I went for the firesale this summer and thought it was a stunning offer regarding the libraries and there was no trouble getting it running for me.
Version 2.5 and they have been around for 10 years or so. €399 regular price and at a temporary sale for €150.
So they make a firesale to get sales going and then there is a 3.0 coming up and upgrade fees will bring a little extra.
Pretty safe and a natural way how things go.
But now I start to wonder:
Regular price down to €99?
If they cannot sell this stuff for €150 they are really going down.
I get the feeling my €150 will be wasted money the day I need to move a license or reinstall of computer and needing to eLicense again.
And now adding another €30 to this risk project.
I don't think so.
YT might be the next kjaerhusaudio issue, and KVR full of people spreading their guts over YT not responding and not being able to license what they bought.
The signal YT are sending is - we will milk it for what it's worth and then take a hike. I'm sorry YT, but this is the signal I'm getting.

another company that pisses off their long time customers in favour of some more sales. why should i pay 30€ for an engine update again, when other people get the whole thing for 99€ (i paid for Culture alone almost 400 € back in 2003)?

I bought the Independence Pro Crossgrade in Dec 2009 which then required the WIBU key - total price around 220 EUR. I was never able to authorize the software because I was missing the requisite authorization key. I requested support many times througn multiple channels and never got a helpful response. Finally last week, I contacted Best Service from whom I had bought the software and the key to put some pressure on Yellow Tools.
Within a few days, I received a response from Best Service with an apology and offer for a free upgrade to v3.0. This was followed by an email from Christian from Yellow Tools which included two new serial numbers for my existing software. Neither serial number is recognized as valid from the registration page of the YT website. I am now waiting for a response from Yellow Tools once again. If it all works out, I will post again here.
Kudos to Best Service. I am hoping for a quick and successful result now.
Wish me luck!
