Awesome job, everybody

Thanks to everyone who participated and voted (and hugs to all the people that thought my stuff was worth points )

Ancient, you rocked this competition (in a cool, smooth way 8)), so a big congrats from me to you. That melodic hook (were those 32nd notes?) was too cool to forget, and I liked the snare sound you came up with. Best of luck to you in the future (I hope you participate again, just to hear what else you come up with). Now go and get your prize already.

Speaking of which, I'd like to say thanks once again to all the developers offering the prizes and a special 'Thank You!' to Peter for positively stuffing the bag'o'goodies for this one. For all the folks who are planning on getting the full version of Alpha, I'd like to say that you'd be surprised at what the additional features can add to this already versatile freebie.

One last thing: After listening to all the entries, I did hear quite a few of the 'Matt's Free Alpha' patches from the bank posted here on KVR. I know I used a bunch of them (Nymphet Bassline and Enoscape come to mind), but I'm a little curious as to what patches the rest of you picked for your songs (those of you that used that particular bank for sounds). Anybody?

Anyway, thanks for the experience, everyone, and best of luck to all of you!

Yes a big thx to Peter for support, for sure the nice prize pool was in part what elevated the tracks this time.

About the presets, I downloaded all I could find from here and Patcharena, but honestly, the standard ones from Bigtone was just so much better than most and an eye-opener to what good sound design is. Not often freebies come with this level of patches.

Aack! Seriously? :-o

But seriously, this changes things a bit. I wasn't really in the market for anything (except maybe the Sylenth soundbanks from Rob Lee), but I'd hate to see these nice prizes go to waste. I'm now thinking of accepting the available Linplug licenses and then passing them on to the next ranking people that don't have Alpha already and would like it, but that's something that I should talk to Peter about first.

On the other hand, I guess I could always disqualify myself for that submission naming flap, thus bumping up two very deserving people into winning spots...

What should I do? :help:

My advice - choose your prize and enjoy it! Very well deserved I would say. Don't worry about me, I've been a fully paid up user of Alpha for years so I already have it :D

And as I keep telling myself, it's not the winning, it's the taking part that counts...

Ancient, well done (again!! I seem to remember you won the last OSC I entered as well!). You set the standard for all of us to aspire to

Yea I know this can seem hard, but it's still a competition which would be devalued if more than the top tracks got prizes. So in every competition there will be a cutoff, this time it was much further down than usual with top 6 choosing from the prize pool. Just look at it that if prizes were extended to top 7, then what about the 8th guy? It would be the same thing. Give to 8th, what about the 9th and so on. I know in this instance the cutoff was between equal points entries only separated by top score count, but it's obviously the placing and not the points that should be looked at.

I understand. Let me mull it over for a bit and I'll PM you with my picks.

Thanks,

Thanks to all very much. I'm humbled to have won is such illustrious company. There were some fantastic tracks, many of which I'll be listening to well after today.

Thanks for the votes and a special thanks to V'ger for keeping this challenge running. It's got to be a lot of work and your volunteerism is greatly appreciated. Thanks to Linplug too! Alpha kicks butt, and MorphoX looks even better.

Cheers!

Hmmm...

So I understand that quite a few people that entered (at least three I can think of) already had the full version of Alpha , is that right? No wonder this was such a tough contest...
