If you're not sure about the modulation question. you can use pancake by cableguys, it is strictly a panning tool (and a lot of fun!)objectman wrote:@V'ger.
Yes, Spinner is that free Leslie thingo. I don't think it's doing modulation although how can I check? It just spins (pans) the crap out of that chugging preset, making it sound a bit dizzy (like that's not happening anyway). I really actually don't need tricks like that. Everything is so wet with reverb anyway.
Chamomile and chocolate makes me feel like a girl.
@everyone. Yeah. Like the amazing Chimera by Majken, it's a bit buggy but sounds awesome and is pretty unique actually, don't youse all think?

Actually, the Nubi3 set of VSTs (which actually are really great) has a Chorus separate. But by the time I finish this track - or by the time another entrant comes along *YAWN & BUMP* - it will be so clean it'll be able to run for President. "He's off those (paid for) drugs now and he swears he only uses legal ones.
Hey @IronDaRonin - that would be a great GUI for a Leslie VST. You could even have a button to increase the LP player buzz and scratch and then feed that back into the phaser effect. I want one!

Leslie is an emulation of a speaker rotaring, so the sound comes and goes.

When you finish it, post the result somewhere in forum, i want to see that working.
About String Theory, well, you can turn on and turn off the UGO logo. For all those contesters who didn't know.
When is off, it sounds like the old version.
When is on, the sound is rich and alive.

This OSC thing is quite addictive. Making music with so many limitations is a great exercise for sharpening skills and it's fascinating to listen to what others come up with. Makes me think of the poker games I play every few months with friends where there's incentive to win the pot but it's so much more about the camaraderie (had to spell check that) and fun.
After the Tyrell OSC I was determined to partake again even though I use a mac and it's a pc only synth. I was going to install bootcamp but am a little paranoid about messing with my main computer so I borrowed my Mom's old compaq laptop instead, and installed Cubase and String Theory on it. The synth quickly grew on me, has a real charm all it's own. Found some plucky inspiration and recorded some tracks. Next time I tried to open my song though it crashed instantly. Nothing I could do would get it to open. Was close to throwing my Mom's laptop against the wall - if it was anyone else's I would have. So I decided to give it another go, but this time I exported each track I recorded right away to audio and then imported the audio tracks into my mac for mixing. Was all good incentive to get the song finished quickly.
Song: evo2slo - Accidental Illumination
Host: Cubase 6 pc recording, Cubase 6 mac mixing - 20 tracks total
FX: Cubase EQ, SonEQ, Molot, TimeVerb, LoudMax

Nice stuff guys, but shame about the issues evo2slo, which is probably due to String Theory being made with an early version SynthEdit and its known bug of multiple instances on multicore processors.
The trick is to set the DAW to use only one core, or make copies of the dll with different names. And the trick to recover unopenable projects like yours is to use the DAW's recovery more (not to load dll's), or if it doesn't have that feauture, to remove the offending dll from the VST folder so you can open the project and them disable them, after which you can copy the dll back and enable them one by one.

Thanks for the tips V'ger. Yeah, in hindsight I bet I would have been able to reopen my first project if I had thought to remove the dll from the plugin folder as you suggested. Just retested it and I found that in the later project if I disable String Theory before saving it reopens fine.
That said, I kind of enjoyed the process of recording everything first, committing to the sound, and then mixing everything later. Usually I record and mix at the same time - but I've found that I rather like approaching them separately. This has been a great learning opportunity, that's for sure!
