Shabdahbriah, If you want to argue further about my intentions, I think you are wasting my time, and your time, so please let's not go around in an endless loop, I think I made my post very clear.
I asked : (is) FL10 the most popular DAW with Trance producers these days ? I did not make a statement, I asked a question. I think this is very clear.
I also mentioned that it is my observation, I did not make a statement based on some special knowledge of the number of users of various DAWs. Since that info. is not public. It is a pure observation, maybe it is right, maybe it is not. Please feel free to provide any feedback you think will be helpful to answer my questions.
Sorry, but I think I will try to ask this on a Trance-Specific forum. seems like this is not a popular topic here.
Cheers,
Muziksculp

Sigh.
I still say use what works FOR YOU.
Why get into a weekend hoohaw over whether or not FL10 is popular among trance producers in the first place? Any question like this is doomed to failure as it is not going to give you the answer you are 'looking' for...
And yet, again, another FL thread goes awry....

I think it's one of the programs that is highly used by trance producers, just as Cubase, Logic or Live. But in the same time, I think it's still not quite there as some others are still in transition to become more famous in general.
Here's a list that is around in some other forums:
Above & Beyond: Logic
Armin Van Buuren: Logic
Sander Van Doorn: Logic
Sean Tyas: Logic
Simon Patterson: Logic
Markus Schulz: Logic
Aly & Fila: Logic
Paul Van Dyk: Logic
Jorn Van Daynhoven: Logic
Mark Eteson: Logic
Super8 & Tab: Logic
John 00 Flemming: Logic
Cosmic Gate: Logic
tyDi: Logic
BT: Logic
Sied Van Riel: Logic
Alex Morph: Logic
Arty: FL
Artic Moon: FL
Nitrous Oxide: FL
Breakfast: FL
Daniel Kandi: Reason
Cold Blue: Reason
John O' Callaghan: Cubase
Bjorn Akkeson: Cubase
Bryan Kearney: Cubase
Gareth Emery: Cubase
Ferry Corsten: Cubase
Thrillseekers: Cubase
Airbase: Ableton
Mat Zo: Ableton
Deadmau5: Ableton
Pretty easy to get that info yourself, just by watching several Future Music / Computer Music artist videos. An artist may never only use just one program for everything, as loads of producers like to use different tools for different things and those might change over time anyway. Airbase used to use Reason too, Marc Marzenit also.
I don't get the purpose of this thread, but maybe this helps a bit with your question.

Those videos are a very small fraction of the reality.emotica wrote:Pretty easy to get that info yourself, just by watching several Future Music / Computer Music artist videos.

There are numerous reasons, which make FLStudio a great program for trance/electro/house/etc.Muziksculp wrote:So, simply put, if anyone here at KVR, has a good and interesting point regarding why FL10 is so popular with Trance Producers, ...
Here some, I noticed:
- pattern based
- Step Sequencer, Slicex, FPC (all for drums)
- internal controllers + routing + LoveFilter, Grossbeat, Vocodex, etc. (to do fancy stuff)
- the browser and the handling with samples in general
- the Pianoroll, which is not only very fast, but also offers some function you won't find in other hosts (only work with internal plugins and samples, VST-standard can't handle them)
- Automation Clips
Oh, and before now someone jumps on me with his stupid and unnecessary BS:
I don't care, how many trance/house/electro producers use FLStudio. I just listed a few reasons, why FLStudio is a very good program for those styles.

Yes, and you have received many correct replies saying that you will not be able to find the answer because you would have to have access to the sales figures of all the top DAWs, and you are not going to get those figures as they are generally considered trade secrets. It has nothing to do with the "popularity" of the product, it is a simple fact.Muziksculp wrote:I asked : (is) FL10 the most popular DAW with Trance producers these days ? Now, if all you want to do is demand the impossible and call anyone pointing out the impossibility (that would include me) a "troll," I'm going to have to consider YOU to be trolling and will very likely lock the thread.
If, on the other hand, you can accept the reality that businesses are not going to provide you with the information to answer your question -- if you're willing to live with the assertion that FLS is one of the most popular DAWs for trance musicians, a fact which is pretty well established -- then there's something left to discuss and the thread can remain unlocked.
So: Which do you prefer? Conversational dead end and lock? Or discuss the wider subject?
[edit] In hope of avoiding the lock option, here's a question for you: What is your purpose in asking? For instance, do you plan to make a trance-themed product to sell to DAW users, and you want to be sure it's one with plenty of customers? That would be a legitimate reason to want to know. If that's the case, it should be enough to know that it's got a huge customer base who are into trance music without insisting that it must be more than any other software -- "anything over a mouthful is wasted," as Frank reminded us.

True. Actually I never saw any FM / CM video where someone used FL Studio and just a fraction of people using Reason (Riley and Durrant). Most of the ones I saw were people using Logic.george wrote:Those videos are a very small fraction of the reality.emotica wrote:Pretty easy to get that info yourself, just by watching several Future Music / Computer Music artist videos.

See.
This is the point. No company that I have had ANY experience with..be it in healthcare or any other, UNLESS it is publicly traded, will publish sales figures for any particular product. And, as it is, most DAW publishers and such are privately held.
BTW Meff. In some ways it can be interpreted as a trade secret if one is looking to gauge the competitors retail strength. I think that it is more that some hold their cards really close to their chests....

@ the OP: May I rephrase your question to help you?
"FL10 does seem to be used by many trance artists (as well as other genres). What features of this DAW lend itself to creating trance?"
My answer to that would be the pattern based DAW and it has been around for ages. When trance ruled in the 90's, FL was very very popular (likely due to warez). I suspect these habits in workflow have continued (not the warez bit BTW)

@trimph: True that. I also omitted that sales figures do no good without knowing how many sales are to musicians who work in trance -- figures that are even more impossible to get; even a major corporate espionage effort wouldn't help there, you'd have to send questionnaires to every computer musician in the world and they'd have to fill in and return every questionnaire.
Anyway, I'd still like the OP to tell what his or her purpose is in asking the question. Without that there's little to no chance the thread can go anywhere but around in circles.

I think this thread must have some how arrived between two parallel dimensions.. where the posts with the answers to your questions were not in your reality thus you could not see them.. yet they were showing up on everyone else's screens. Amazing.

Oh, it's very popular Muziksculp. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, waistoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore it. They think it's a righteous DAW.
