The Synthix can do that. Just use the Guitar Mode and assign the 6 first layers to 6 midi channels.
Ech layer can have its own completely different sound, but you can have also have some tiny differences between layers to add life (like different tremoloes/vibrato speeds for each layer ) : Your choice. each layer can f course have different pitch bend settings ( like giant slides on the 6th strings and no no one on the first, wich could be for a bass sound) etc etc.
You dont need to use the unisson to operate that function.
But you can still add Unisson if you want. ( If 6 layers are used the max unisson will be 2, if only 4 strings/layers are sued, then Unisson cn be up to 4 voice per 'string' )

It seems Ableton has a similar option to enable MIDI on ALL channels. Details here...AdmiralQuality wrote:There must be a way. That seems to be a MIDI input configuration, but is there an output configuration?present wrote:Damn, seems its no-go in Ableton. It definitely says 'receive all' but it seems to be passing it onto the VST as just one channelToo bad!
I've asked about this in the hosts forum...

Further to the issue of multiple instances vs one instance in guitar mode, I've used Omnisphere successfully in full polyphonic aftertouch and polyphonic pitch bend mode: One instance in the multi-timbral mode is all that's needed (I suppose that's what the guitar mode is about = multi timbral = separate midi channels?).NothanUmber wrote:Yes, definitely can be done, will require (in some cases much) more (CPU and RAM) resources and preset tweaking is less convenient as you have to keep up to 16 instances synchronized... (The latter can be automated to some extend with hosts like Bidule but it's still not a "turn knobs while playing and listing" experience, it's more "turn knob, click synchronize instances, wait, play, turn knob, click synchronize etc."
Just chaining automation parameters is not sufficient for more complex synths as not all tuning options are exposed via automation parameters, so the sound of your instances will differ more and more over time, so at some point you need a complete resync (=save preset on master instance, reload it in slave instances).
So out of the box support for multi mono mode is imho much more convenient.
So, we have Omnisphere set up and each multi-timbral channel is set to a different midi channel, each loaded with the same preset. Omnisphere is loaded in Logic and here there is a specific environment set up which deals with the midi channel assignment.
The cool thing about Omnisphere is that it allows to copy/paste a preset from channel one to the other seven channels with one click (thanks to Jordan Rudess for the tip). This is helpful, as I could be working on a preset on channel 1, and it would only take one click ('Clone Part 1') to copy that preset to the other channels and make it possible to quickly test the sound using all polyphonic controllers (aftertouch, pitch bend). Without this 'clone' button it would require to copy stuff manually seven times (which ever way, ie: copy the plugin from track to track, or save the preset in track 1 and load it in the other plugin instances). So this is a nice feature for developers to copy in their instruments, I think.
Anyway, so this suggests that any multi-timbral synth could be a good candidate for testing. I'm going to test Halion Sonic in Cubase soon, and Mach5 too.
One thing that is also helpful is to have both the channel aftertouch and poly aftertouch available in the mod matrix. For example, Omnisphere only has a single generic 'aftertouch' entry and yet Alchemy has both. Having the two is necessary in some cases where two different aftertouch controllers are needed.
