I like the design of some of these synths.

The Roland SH-32 is butt-ugly in a hospital-equipment kind of way. But it doesn't sound ugly at all.

The Con Brio ADS 200 can be considered one of those rare Holy Grail pieces of vintage synth technology. Released in 1980, the ADS (Advanced Digital Synthesizer) 200 was well ahead of its time - yet only two were reportedly made and at a price tag of $30,000 each!

It had 64 oscillators!!!! Unfortunately there are no demos and the one Youtube video, the guy that has it says: 'The only problem is, I don't remember how to use it!!!!!

The ADS 100 was used to make sound fx for Star Trek.

To each their own, I guess. I think it has a cool retro future vibe to it. Like a set piece from Space 1999.

Sounds like it could have made the soundtrack to it too.

I personally don’t think any synths are particularly beautiful, and I don’t care. I just want a synth to be clearly laid out and intuitive to use. Someone posted the Nina as being ugly, but it is the most intuitive synthesizer with preset memory that’s ever existed due to its motorized knobs. If I want to look at a beautiful instrument, I’ve got guitars.

I actually like it. It's a drum machine right? And a Yamaha I guess -- but which model?

Yamaha TQ5 and it was actually an FM synth i believe.

Funny, I don’t remember the TQ5 and it is indeed a hideous gargoyle of a synth, but if I ever see one for sale at a cheap price, it WILL be mine!

I think it’s either ugly in a cool sort of way, or cool in an ugly sort of way… not sure which one, though
