So if you want to hear what the arrangement would sound like with a 7th chord for a moment, tada! you have it, and can change it back in an instant too.

I do know all the basic piano chords and have references for the ones I don't know, and Strum does a really good job showing what chord you are playing, if you know what G is for example figuring out any G chord can be done pretty quickly, then just play or write that in your sequencer. It is a good educational tool in that way. When watching the automation in Guitarist, particularly when it is triggered by the keyboard, I am not so quick to recognize what chord is being played.

I was thinking about this, and the same thing I'm doing with Catanya and Strum could be done with Guitarist and another step sequencer/arp. Both Catanya and Strum are set up to take in chords to drive their progressions, and Guitarist and some step sequencers take in mono inputs to trigger their patterns, so I could maybe do the same trick using the right arp with Guitarist. I bet Consequence would work really well with Guitarist, driven from the same mono midi chord change patterns :)

Interesting! That really IS a streamlined workflow! Probably not something I'd want to do with every song, but I bet there are some interesting things you could get out of it. Thanks for letting me know! :-)

Yeah definitely not every song, but if you keep the chord progression abstracted from the start you can always add new parts easily, just in case. It actually makes working in Strum a bit easier, Strum has these nice 'no chord' midi patterns, if you want to replace the whole feel of the strum later you can easily do it without having to re-enter your chord progression, which could be a real pain. So even if you don't use Catanya or another arp, it still is good for Strum. Especially if you use two instances of Strum, I am using the Acoustic and Electric side by side and again, pain in the butt to have to manually change each midi loop if you change your mind about anything later. I guess this is where Guitarist has the edge (if you don't use my workflow) because you can change the pattern easily without changing the chords, although many times I have switched patterns and accidentally lost my chord progression. Best to save my work as patterns in Guitarist often.

I just wanted to mention how incredibly cool Sugar Bytes are, I wrote them asking if I could swap my recently-purchased Guitarist for Consequence and they are happily doing it, I'm just waiting for their workday to start in Europe but I should have Consequence tomorrow, and that fits right into my workflow nicely. And they confirmed they are working on keyboard chord detection in the upcoming version, so I may be aiming to re-buy once that is released. Anyhow they are a great, I highly recommend Guitarist just I have this weird workflow thing going, and Consequence will spice up my compositions more that Guitarist right at this point.
