That's a good point. TAL-Noisemaker just added a moog filter setting. I gave it a listen last week, and it sounded good.Kriminal wrote:what about the TAL audio synths?

Yeah no GUI but yeah it is sweet! But for the lappy Minimogue is fine. It actually is my favorite right now, it is not like I need a whole lot of synths and it and Synth1 will be getting the most use probably.mikebenson wrote:Did you try the 8x oversampled version yet? MinimogueLUXUS version 2.3 8 times oversampled
I'm going to try that one on my desktop

These are the best free plugins I've been able to find, that actually run on my old, slow computer I'm using:
Crystal
Ensembler
Feldspar
-techno
Genesis
-uses the most CPU, but it sounds "phat"
Helix
Intro
-house/hip-hop
Oatmeal
-#1 on my list, and that's my skin for Oatmeal by the way
RPS-1
-drums/sequencer
SFZ+
-Soundfonts - piano, choir, etc.
SQ8L
-80's retro
Synth1
-more presets available then every other plugin combined - lol
Universal
-I just recently discovered this one - it will blow your mind!
http://code.google.com/p/macaw/downloads/list
Voyager
-not entirely "bug"-free
If you give these a try, they should keep you busy for quite a long time.
Enjoy!

Zebralette is very CPU-friendly but isn't what you asked for ("moogish"). Tyrell is a CPU-hog but very "analog". Model-e sounds bad, dunno about Elektro... My suggestions are:pandashake wrote:Tyrell and zebralette would both bring an old laptop to its knees. The Elektro Studio stuff is pretty low IIRC. I would also throw in the suggestion for the recently free Model E.ScottZ wrote:Tyrell N6,zebralette and the 10 pack + the model pro from elektro studio which was inspired by moog prodigy.
Synth1, Zebralette (anyway!), Helix and Orca (can't remember CPU-hit of that one, though)

1/2 an instance of tyrell will leave your old laptop a smoking pile of molten waste!

Moog???
I really much know about free synths and I love it.. also cause they are very Modern luckily. and There is Tal.. But If you want old MOOG or Vintage,, You have to go to Arturia or Poly-Ana....
- Oh.. If your moog mean Juno too see post DCO-6 free synth!!!

This thread deserves to be sticky and needs it counterparts in both effect and host sub forums IMO !

It's the same with me - I'm with Cubase SX 2. The 'normal' version has GUI though. 8 times oversampled sounds really good, it's a shame there's no GUI.braj wrote:Yeah no GUI but yeah it is sweet! Thanks, I just grabbed Model Pro and it is nice, I think I'll get use out of that, single oscillator synths are easy to get sounds out of, I remember my old sh101, you had no patch memory so learning how to get 'your' sounds on the fly was a necessity. I remember when I got my Juno I was so amazed that I could save patches!

I know I already gave you an awesome list of free plugins earlier, but here's a couple others that are more aimed towards the sound of a Moog:
Abakos
-nice warm sound
Cyclick's FreeMoog
Model Pro
-cool interface
They may not have that exact signature Moog sound you're after, but you still might like them.
