Sound quality is shit, but it's convenient and gives a good widget interface for external website (well, once you re-write the plugin code so that it's HTML compliant and works with any host).
I make music: progressive-acoustic | electronica/game-soundtrack work | progressive alt-metal

The streaming quality sucks, though not so badly as MySpace, with really low bass producing high-freq artifacts. But if the streaming quality were better, a lot of musicians trying to protect their property wouldn't post. You also have the option to upload in high-res formats and make them available to download.

You cant knock free and I like the clickable waveform display so I can quickly ascertain the song is shit all the way through.
As you know 99% of tunes on Soundcloud are shit, except yours

By the way, Soundcloud converts to 128 kbps mp3 for streaming, and those files are found in your browser cache. For some reason, these files sound better when saved as mp3s than they do when streamed. And for people who don't want users downloading their stuff, it's a bit of a problem, because it's easy to compile all the pieces from any member in 128-bit mp3 and they sound pretty good, even if that member doesn't allow downloading of the originals (which are usually higher-res).

To collaborate with high-res files, just upload the files to your account and make them private files, then set access for whoever you want. That way only the musicians you want have access to the high-quality files. It's a great private sharing service too, and one that permits great conversation around the waveforms.Tricky-Loops wrote:Isn't it easier to send even bigger files (as .WAV) with SKYPE? Audio quality is crap (only good when having the download option enabled because download is the original file).
Best thing is the easy integration in the own website, Facebook etc. and some DAWs having at least upload support (Cubase 6.5, Studio One).

That sounds interesting. But what should I do if someone with whom I want to collaborate isn't registered at SoundCloud? Can she/he also get access to the files?Gonga wrote:To collaborate with high-res files, just upload the files to your account and make them private files, then set access for whoever you want. Yes. It's the same with "private" links on Youtube. Everybody with the link can view it. It's more that this link will not be shown in track lists or own sets so others will not see them.Tricky-Loops wrote:That sounds interesting. I think now I have to change my (negative) opinion about SoundCloud...
It seems to be a really good way to collaborate with other musicians!
I've never thought about this, I just found the wave forms not that pretty and all these up-popping comments in the timeline somewhat confusing.
But now I think I should delete my MySpace account and fly in the space to the SoundCloud...

I like how Soundcloud works. I just don't like the pricing for their premium accounts, which is why I cancelled my premium account there. 12 hours of music upload for €29 / month where as on ubetoo I get for €9.90 / month unlimited upload space, distribution to over 500 online music stores such as Itunes and Amazon.
Don't get me wrong. Soundcloud is a good choice to get the music out to potential listeners, but it is clearly not worth throwing money at from where my point of view is.

I have been on SC for about a year and I think it is great. Met so many really wonderful people and made many valuable connections.

Thanks for the tip with Ubetoo. I've never heard about it, but what I have read on the Ubetoo homepage sounds really interesting.jobromedia wrote:I like how Soundcloud works. What I like less, is the minimalistic design of the artist's homepages at Ubetoo...
Now I'm a bit confused about the upload limit at SoundCloud. If I have a free account with 120 upload minutes - if the 120 minutes are consumed, can I never upload anything else until I sign in to a premium account??
