ppl Make things needlessly hard on themselves.

If I'm not actually playing the part. I'll pull up band in a box and score from there. Much more realistic accompaniments then some silly arp.
Then export to midi and import to daw. Apply vst's vsti's and freeze tracks to audio. Then I'll do a "pre mix" and take it down to a stereo track. Leaving space for my solos.

I'll close the daw open the stereo track and if it's midi based my host (cantible) I'll run a screen cap to capture the pc out and play to the backing track. Granted I can't finness any imperfect solo's that I capture live so some times it takes a few takes But I know what I can do and if I can't do it maybe I shouldn't be trying to record it and compensate later.

The thing with a 'silly arp' is YOU are actually composing the part, not using a pattern someone else wrote. I use some pretty cool arps that give you a lot of compositional and real-time control, and just because you think they are silly doesn't mean I'm making it needlessly hard on myself. It actually sounds like your process is more convoluted and mine is more immediate. But then I don't care what you think. :P
