Now take some kind of a stopwatch and extend your hand in front of your monitor like that and time how many minutes you can do such motions before your deltoid muscles get flushed with lactic acid and send "i am on fire ! stop whatever you are doing now !" message to your brain.

So people dont or never did work with their arms, in a eg supermarket, agriculture, car repair shop, plastic artists, construction workers, bakers...

You underestimate your body.

It IS an issue and lots of money are being spent to rehabilitate people and prevent issues caused by repetitive physical work

Lifting heavy iron at the gym on an amateur level since 1995.

Watch the advert video again to see the way that guy is holding his hand in the air and do the experiment i described.
You will feel what i meant if you are a human being.

If you wanted to work like that without any ergonomic arm support for 8 hours a day your doctor would quickly become your best friend.

If it could read through perspex for example, you could have a perspex desk top and have it sit on the floor.

while cool, I'm not sure why I would want it over an actual mixing surface. Cost maybe - less gear to transport. I would hope you can move the sensor closer to your body to spare your shoulders.

nice idea - don't know if it will work but definitely the way to think of this is in terms of what it can add / what it will be good for, rather than as some sort of do everything replacement. Working for hours with your arms out in front is a dead loss, but that sort of thing is strictly for demos and no-one working in interaction design would think of that as practical. But as a gesture recognition device for desktop using Win8 it could be good, flicking from keyboard to gesture and back.
I look forward to seeing what people come up with - a few students / colleagues have ordered some. Hooked into little micros like the raspberry pi or android systems has a lot of potential.
