Welcome to the party pal! (I'll spare you guys the diehard photo......for now)

The Beta testing has to do with us watching those videos and see if we can spot a bug! :x

That e-mail was basically "we're beta testing, and we invited some people, but not you, but maybe later, but definitely not you, not now."

I got invited up for coffee, and we actually JUST HAD COFFEE :tantrum:

Also, the "we're supporting plugins, and we tested a few, but not AU, but maybe later, but definitely not AU, not now." kinda killed the buzz.

Real beta testing of a complex DAW is a difficult job. Trust me, none of you really want to do it, you just want a preview copy. Companies have QA departments that spend lots of time and effort making sure software is stable. I'm sure Bitwig is doing this as well. What Bitwig is doing with the announcements is more of a marketing tool to keep people interested. Keep your pants on and be thankful when they release a stable product.

True - I might have balked had they asked (though I've beta tested products before and am doing so now, just 'cause I'm a sucker for taking on more projects I don't have time for!).

That said, I think it was sneaky marketing - and not in keeping with the company's "friendly, indy vibe" - to imply anyone who responded to their newsletter subscription request would be first choice. More professional to send a realistic bulletin with criteria / expectations.

"You, our newsletter subscribers, will be the first ones to receive an invite."

I would have been happy with coffee/newsletter if they said "no, really, you're probably only getting coffee/newsletter" :D

True. But stability and bugs aren't the only thing that need wider testing. A good bit of what gets exposed in testing is the ... "Hey... this just doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense, and here's why..." type of stuff, having nothing really to do with bugs.

Squash as many bugs as possible, sure. But there's also lots of value in getting multiple differing minds involved in workflow discussions... especially if the developers and other people in the company have a very limited range of experience using those types of products.

It's (imo, or should be)as much about "moving the trees to see the forest" as it is about bugs.

This is the sorriest apologetic for vaporware I've ever seen...and no, none of the above is necessarily true, though it may be the case for hypeware

hehe along the lines of... 'our awesomeSuperCool new software is currently in testing phase.. we wanted to inform you of this and our complete lack of desire for you to test. Actually, we think you'd make it more difficult for us.. so we wanted to make you aware that you stink but we still want you interested and NOT to forget about us, so you'll give us your money once this awesomeSuperCool new software is released.'

or

'When I click that is that supposed to happen?' 'I'm scrolling up but it doesn't do what I want it to do.. probably a bug right?' 'It crashed on me. I forget what I was doing at the time. but an error messaged popped onto the screen.. said something about a crash or something'
