i can't wait until ghettosynth gets a new pc. i'm making a list of all the things i hate about windows and windows users specifically for the occasion so I can troll and crap all over his thread... as I still use PCs at work and even though i have a ripping fast machine at work, i'm still constantly amazed how the OS (the beloved Windows 7) disappoints on simple tasks like searching and then navigating thru said search.

Then it's my place to state, I don't believe what your saying.ghettosynth wrote:It makes no difference whether anyone asks, the implicit nature of the thread is "Ooh, my new mac is awesome", hence, it's precisely the place to state "my new macs were not awesome."
Most are aware of those who will go to great lengths to make false claims about certain products, due to ulterior motives.
Those usually being of the consistent, and repetitive variety.
Having great similarity to your posts here, and the previous posts in threads regarding Apple or it's products.

Great tips there mcnoone.mcnoone wrote:I have a 15"mbp and there's something important that you should check.skipkent wrote:...I'm loving it!
I'm on snow leopard, but lion probably has the same thing.
Go into your preferences panel there, and find the lightbulb icon "energy saver" settings there.
Make sure you set the option for "better performance" and not longer battery.
If it has this.
It's really got to do with the graphics card. If it has 2 like mine.
That setting changes to the higher performance graphics card.
So if you look to see what graphics cards are there.
Mine has the 9400m Nvidia, and the 9600GT, so higher performance will make the 9600GT my graphics card.
Check into some other tweaks on forums and similar.
I'm looking to pick one of those mbp's up so this will help me a lot.

Skipkent got the 13", so his won't have the setting Mcnoone refers to, since they've only got a single graphics card. And if you get the 15", they no longer have the option to change cards for performance, because they do so automatically, without the need to log out/log in. It's pretty slick, and works very well. I had one of the newer quad core 15"s, and it played most modern games really well. I gave it up because I got tired of traveling with the 15, and went to the 13" i7.trimph1 wrote:Great tips there mcnoone.mcnoone wrote:I have a 15"mbp and there's something important that you should check.skipkent wrote:...I'm loving it!

Now I travel with my over-priced, unreliable computer all over the world! It's a bear, not knowing when it'll give out, but I sure do love it.

I've been using both for work as well, neither of them are anymore unreliable than the other here.
I just get a kick from the hatas here...

I only have a coreduo2, but are there no options for performance versus battery usage now at all?polaris20 wrote: Skipkent got the 13", so his won't have the setting Mcnoone refers to, since they've only got a single graphics card. The energy saver preference, does it have any performance option?

For anyone interested in laptop reliability, here's an interesting article:

What is significant about Apple is when they do have problems, they do a great job of resolving the issue, as noted:

Interesting how the survey falls in line with my experiences with HP and Dell. And when Apple customers do have problems, they're generally satisfied with the company's response. Just under 8 percent of Apple laptop users in our survey report their problem was never resolved by the company's support team, significantly lower than the industry average.

I still have that very laptop sitting here, it was the late 2008 unibody, great laptop. The current models still have energy saver options, but nothing for switching graphics, IIRC. I've not got one sitting here, but as far as I remember they're all autoswitching now, no manual selection which requires a log out, log in.mcnoone wrote:I only have a coreduo2, but are there no options for performance versus battery usage now at all?polaris20 wrote: Skipkent got the 13", so his won't have the setting Mcnoone refers to, since they've only got a single graphics card.
