Bought it. Tried to copy the presets with other synths but it didn't work out. I read somewhere that it's an instant BoC-machine and I'm not disappointed with that. But it can do other tricks too.

Combining one or more Phonecs playing the same leads is really really tasty.

It's amazing how many possibilities are lurking behind that small, delightfully aged UI.
A few more mod targets wouldn't go amiss, but there's enough to chew on. Hurry up 'n send that license!

Demoing, halfway promised myself not to get any more synths but I'm really starting to like this thing...
If the echoshifter can be set to 100 % wet we can use another slightly different version of a patch so one instance is dry and the other supplies the shifted echo etc.. Perhaps you could add another fader for extra wetness? Call it, ehem, "soaking wet"? (sorry, that was even painfull to write..)
I only partially get what the "buffer" parameter does, anyone care to explain it in more detail?
Some things I'd be happy to se added to modulation possibilities:
Smooth random as LFO shape.
Resonance as modulation destination, makes for interesting movement in some sounds.
Echoshifter parameters as modulation destinations (LFO modulated detuning sounds sweet to me, just tested with the simple LFO tool in Orion, but that tools a bit too basic for most uses - can only be applied to a portion of a track etc..).
A random mode or two for the arp, works well for some sounds (to my ears at least).
A random modulation source triggered on each key on that can be sent to the rate of LFO 3 etc, or just an option for it in LFO 3.. Random variations for each note can work well for cutoff or pitch on some cases, or amp for another kind of instability with arps etc...
Did have a crash in Orion when I mocked about a bit with the gate time of the arp, but Orion is acting up a lot so might be more the fault of a slightly unstable host than anything else... It wasn't even repeatable (the sound was autosaved so I could use the same settings) so probably Orion had a hiccup..
Oh, arp gate time as LFO destination, that would be nice
Sorry to make so many requests, as I mentioned I allready really like this delightful little beast - just nice if some of those extra possibilites could be considered.

Yep, I've also bought it. It has stolen the focus for the whole evening for me. Oozes.ariston wrote:Just tried the demo... this is a really nice synth, a very cool, dusty vibe, and loads of character. It's almost like a one-stop-BOC-shop!
Ordered straight away, waiting patiently for delivery.

I always thought BOC got that sound using some kind of chorus FX set up?

The Buffer creates a chorus like effect on the delays by slightly shifting the time that the delay starts. It's actually a normal dealy processed through a pitch-shifted delay, and this control would be the pitch-shifted delay timing.V-GER wrote:I only partially get what the "buffer" parameter does, anyone care to explain it in more detail?
All good ideas, will see what I can do. I really like the idea of an LFO modulated echoshifterSome things I'd be happy to se added to modulation possibilities:

Interesting idea, but might not be too practical for Phonec. I would try this out in a more experimental project though.A random modulation source triggered on each key on that can be sent to the rate of LFO 3 etc, or just an option for it in LFO 3.. Random variations for each note can work well for cutoff or pitch on some cases, or amp for another kind of instability with arps etc...
Probably, but I'll look into it anyway. Let me know if you have any other issues, or if this one happens again.Did have a crash in Orion when I mocked about a bit with the gate time of the arp, but Orion is acting up a lot so might be more the fault of a slightly unstable host than anything else... It wasn't even repeatable (the sound was autosaved so I could use the same settings) so probably Orion had a hiccup..
Indeed! Why didn't I think of that...Oh, arp gate time as LFO destination, that would be nice
No problem. Thanks for the feedbackSorry to make so many requests, as I mentioned I allready really like this delightful little beast - just nice if some of those extra possibilites could be considered.

As Phonec is quite different and has a distinctive sound character, I bought it yesterday despite currently being tight on money.
Feel the energy...

Hi Jack,
many thanks for your synth.
I like it a lot. So I made a song with Phonec as main synth.
It is called "Phonec".
Here it is:

Here's another quick demo I did for Phonec today:

Everything, with the exception of the drums, is Phonec presets.
Gucky also has a great one at Music Cafe:

And another one by insert-name-here:
