This Whysynth has Async Granular mode for the four OSCs with

grain Lz .001-20
Grain Spread
30 grain envelopes, some gausian, roadsian and rectangular
Grain Freq Dist

14 tabs for

Osc 1-4
Filters (dual, choice of A/B bus,
with 23 Freq Mod Source choices: MLFO3 bipolar etc)

Mix -Bus A, B Filter 1, 2 pan on each, master volume
Effect -plate reverb and dual delay
LFO Global, Voice, and Multi-Phase 23 choices for Voice and Multi-phase
EGO 12 shapes for A, D, and R
EG1-4 same 12 shape options as EGO
Amp Mod Source -23 choices on each EGO/EG1-4 with Amp Mod Amt and Sustain level

I doubt there are many pro sound designers using linux, but there is a
lot of options for those interested. Phasex also has a lot of untapped
potential. A cash strapped musician wanting fresh sounds, could do well.

The presets sounds remind me of Augur, but using the options, who knows

My hope is to get people tweaking these synths (WhySynth, Phasex, etc) and sharing patches! There's probably lots of people who've done it, but shy to share their work..

So you and I might have to lead the way..

Because we want to have control over our PCs.

At least that's how I see it..

BTW, most people don't start with linux, they start with Windows, because that's what they practically obblige you to purchase when you buy a PC.

Then, at some point, you ask yourself: why must I use Windows? What if I want to build up an operating system with just the bits and pieces that I want to choose myself??

And then you see the light: Linux!

As I understand Mac OS is built on top of linux kernel, so what you thus are asking are why people are not using PC with Windows?

you can start with a puppy linux, like Macpup or dpup Exprimo, and add
enough synths and fx to be fully sated. In less than 700 meg.

You can buy a fast RT preconfigured audio linux system
on a usbstick, for $50,

to inhabit kvr, you should manage the newer ready to roll
gui and command based apps quite easily, and running well enough on
that old dinosaur P4 corroding away in the garage, to do some
fine recordings.

Most non-dongle/ilok/pace/macromedia plugins will work in linux,
if wine and wineasio are installed, pretty simple for sincere folk
who ask for help when needed.

preconfigured linux audio studios, burn .iso file to dvd/cd,
reboot using computer early boot menu. Learn at leisure, no viet rush,
no pro-tools support runaround

Many people have the biased idea that using linux is difficult. It's about as difficult as putting a CD in the drive, or making mashed potatoes. If you've never done it before, I suppose someone could argue that it's "hard," but once you've tried it... you begin to wonder why no one ever showed you earlier!

Go to a website like distrowatch.com and browse the versions of linux. Hundreds! You can narrow your choices in the search area, to browse just the ones that are "tweaked" for audio use. However, I've used a non-audio version called "Bodhi" linux, which is very very light, and I installed all the synths, DAWs, etc right in the software installer. They're all free to download... kind of like shopping, without the bill!

And, it performs great!

With a kernel and ubuntu almost working on Nexus tablets,
Bodhi will probably be the best non-android linux option
for such hardware, and hopefully, music apps will make their way
there. A gesture based mod-wheel, would be a nice option
