It works much better in Tabletop. Easy note editing and sequencer functions.shanecgriffo wrote:Just got tabletop to run the impc in .. Wow pretty cool for free!

I made that app, thanks for the plug! Beat-Machine is similar to an MPC in many ways, but isn't really as powerful as an MPC. More like a minimalist drum computer like a 707 or 909 but with a sample player where you can put any sound you want and edit it. The iMPC is ok, but the limitations do seem silly given the amount of time and and money (I'm assuming) went into it. I was able to make Beat-Machine in my spare time over the course of about a year, and I had never made an app before. BeatMaker 2 is still my #1 music app for fat beats; can't beat it.Crabshack wrote:or midi at all...
yeah, thats what the big players are very good at:they all have fantastic grafic designer but lacking important features while they want to have more money compared to similar apps (hello korg)![]()
you want a much cheaper MPC with Midi (but without the akai logo)?
https://itunes.apple.com/de/app/beat-ma ... 25861?mt=8
The future of audio on iOS looks good though; the developer of audiobus has also created this, and it looks like it could be used to easily create some fast and powerful audio apps.

Well Derek, you made me look now, so I bought your app. I tried it out and it will sit for awhile until a few fixes come out, but a hint on if u want that app to start selling more:derek1 wrote:I made that app, thanks for the plug! Settings menu is too sparse. More flexibility.
Update the graphics. The iMPC does have some beautiful graphics, beat-machine doesn't have to match it, but it could be a little more fine tuned. I like to either look at an amazingly great UI with decent features or as in the case of BM 2, I will put up with that drab looking interface because it has so many features unmatched and implemented well.
If you could shoot for lower CPU use, faster load times
As far as features - you ever check out Poise? You are close with a great start, but I guarantee that if you could offer the same as Poise in your app, update those graphics, cut down CPU, etc, you will be selling it like mad. You could charge more for it, but that point wouldn't be so you could make money, more to offer us MPC fanatics that like fairly simple to operate drum samplers, a great app that just gives a little old school MPC fun.
There are also those that won't take a $1.99 app seriously even though it might actually be really cool. You should be rewarded for good work anyway and look at the cost of the real deal brand new MPC 500...that one is very limited but still fun and they charge a lot for it because its hardware and has Akai branding on it plus still has that MPC style.
Anyway - nice work so far. Look forward to seeing how it develops. Functionality beats beauty in the end. I just want a playable MPC on my ipad that has that sample edit window, chop, layer with options, simple pattern recording, that works well and won't tax my iPads CPU terribly so I can still get clean audio, a few midi in options, some simple fx and easy bussing.
The iMPC is easy to record on, has great soundset, fantastic graphics, but falls short in the features and it was well worth the $7 because its really fun and sounds great. They better up the features too if they are going to charge any more for it.
Poise is the closest thing I've seen to a true old school mpc and it is a windows only, vst only, $50 worth of cool.
Good luck!

Thanks for the feedback! I'd like lower cpu usage and faster load times too! I could get significant speed improvements if I optimize some of the C code into assembler... but I'm not sure if I should focus on that or wait until that new audiobus engine is released and get to work making an app out of that. If it's as good as audiobus I just may be able to make a really awesome drum sampler that is fast and efficient. I've already made a 96ppq midi sequencer that I was thinking of including in Beat-Machine, but it might be overkill for such a simple app. I will however see how well it pairs up with this new audio engine though. Beat-Machine gets updated this week with AudioCopy / Paste! I've been pasting loops into BeatMaker 2 and iMPC, I'm also going to work out a way to export midi loops from Beat-Machine into BeatMaker 2. I'll keep the forum updated on my progress with these things.
The iMPC is still pretty good for what it is... I'm also digging the graphics

It (iMPC) looks really beautiful but I have pretty much lost faith in Akai as a company, even though this wasn't developed by them. I also have some doubts regarding "pad sensitivity"...at least my iPad 2 seems to have some issues responding quickly enough in some apps.

So I was really interested in TableTop when I first picked up an iPad. I had a show to do and I thought that it would be fun to use the iPad and that TableTop would/should be reasonably close to a hardware workflow that I was familiar with.Wormhelmet wrote:Yes, I was mistaken about in-app purchase. If you purchase the app standalone, then it is available in tabletop. This is very cool! Now if I could ever wrap my head around tabletops workflow I would be happy. The tabletop 4000 synth is really capable of designing some useful sounds. Combined with iMPC and some other tabletop features, this would be amazing, but I can't give it the chance yet because of the workflow curve.
Without getting into the reasons why it isn't really all that close, it simply wasn't up to the task. The main reason that it proved unusable, workflow issues aside, however, is that it constantly crashes.
I recently installed the new update along with iMpc, mostly to play with the mpc, but the update was free. After less than five minutes, it crashed, losing the loop that I had going.
tl; dr: it's too unstable to use in the context that it's designed to be used.

I guess I don't really care about the sounds that come with the iMPC. I have no intentions of using them... I use my own samples.BMoore wrote:Because iMPC has a s**t load of great sounds, and BM2 does'nt?bafonso wrote:I have an mpc1k in order to feel real pads... and it's somewhat zen to navigate the whole thing and pace yourself while coming up with interesting stuff.
This iMPC, I don't see why I would ever get it having BM2... BM2's pretty immediate for me but still not perfect. It should have shortcut buttons for ADSR, etc.

A "program" is a group of samples, spread across the pads. If you want a sampler that doesn't allow you save a group of samples, spread across the pads...DrGonzo wrote:I knew that if I would say that I don't dig the JJ OS it would be blasphemy in the extreme. If I would mention that over at MPC Forums they would pick up their Glocks and I would be looking like a swiss cheese before I finished my sentence.
The reason why I bought the MPC in the first place was because it was dead simple. No saving of programs, no microediting of details - basically just sample and record. I was one of the first who snatched the MPC2500 when it first arrived and I made quite a few tracks with it. It was never the centre of my musical universe but it always offered a different route making beats/music - which mostly worked as a way to get through situations when I didn't know how to proceed in a track.
As for appregriator and chord mode? Don't turn the knob all the way to the right and you never have to even see them (I rarely see 'em.)
Hope this helps.

Has anyone noticed the tempo is somewhat off with iMPC? I have been using audio copy and pasting into Auria. Then I set the tempo in Auria to be what I set in iMPC. The pasted audio is not matching up with the beats bars in Auria. Looking at the audio sample, you can even see it slightly ahead of the bar. So things aren't lining up. This kind of makes it unusable. I have tried 90 and 95 BPM using 4 bar and 8 bar patterns.
Am I doing something wrong? Has anyone else noticed this? I have used audio copy from Alchemy, Animoog, ReBirth and DM-1 and pasted into Auria just fine.
How are others getting audio from iMPC into other apps? I haven't tried using iTunes and using the WAV file yet to see if tht will work.
EDIT: Just tested pasting iPolySix audio into Auria at 89 BPM and it worked fine. I actually first noticed this problem when I pasted the iMPC audio into Alchemy and the arpeggios were just not properly lining up. So I am using Auria as another point of testing.

I bought the iMPC at $7. Amazing to hear the complaints of it being nothing like a real MPC. Lets see, $7 or $600-$1700 depending on MPC type for the real thing.....
I like it, but needs some expanded features. Even if I have to get in-app purchases, I would.

i can only speak for myself:i don't compare it with a real mpc (would be pretty dumb imo) but i compare it to similar apps. And there's nothing wrong about it imo.

I haven't used mine much lately, but glad I got it at $7. Really is laid out nice for a drum sampler. Beautiful GUI and great use of screen real estate. Just wish it had more features.
