More reasoned and reasonable debate. Do you see what you have started?
Uh?
Do you?
We aren't even in 'Hosts'.

I just listened to the whole album. I don't like it at all
Too much bad vocoders, weak beats, weak ambiance. And too much ripping/influences. Some tracks are just older tracks melodies and sounds ripped with a few chords changed. IMHO
Only track I could listen to the end is Motherboard, and it is just weak plaid/amon tobin imitation with a gimmick coming from Supernature (gimmick already present in the preceding track, and supernature is almost completely ripped in track 3...)
I will now forget quickly about Daft Punk because they just doesn't deserve the hassle

Meanwhile, Mike Patton did a pretty darn good (if often minimalist from what I heard/saw) score for "The Place Beyond The Pines". Only his 2nd, or 3rd "big" movie ? Just saying, music is music, so why not celebrate those odd/rare successes, and if like me and many folks, you only like 1/50th of what someone does, then talk about someone else.

That's the third thread on that topic I've seen here.
And no ... most people I know are dissapointed with the new album.
I personally heard through it today and it really bored me to death.
Solid production but completely uninspired and without any highs and lows.
I think, there was only one song, which I really like (Beyond).
That said, I only heard through it one time.
Sometimes music gets better, if you listen to it a second time.
Still it's definetly not nearly as great as they tried to make it with their hype campaign.

I've heard Get Lucky (a lot - love it) and the first 3 tracks and I've been pretty damn impressed with 1) the production values: it SOUNDS amazing. Incredibly well recorded and mixed. And 2) The musicianship: you hear that loop in Get Lucky? If you listen closely, you'll hear that it's not a loop at all (or at least a very damn long one). Those are real people playing without quantization. When was the last time you heard something that tight on a pop record? Thriller? It's mindblowing how tight some of these tracks are.
Now, you can argue that the songwriting may not be to your taste, which is completely fine and absolutely your business, but I'm not sure you belong on KVR if you can't appreciate the production and musicianship at the very least. It just sounds like they spared no expensive and got the best of everything (studios/gear, session musicians, cocaine...well, maybe not) for this record.
I want to hear more of this. Much, much more of this.
