Interesting

I bought a synth recently which comes in two versions, one with and one without Gibbs effect being applied to the sound. The former is advertised as sounding warmer because of that physical effect.

This question also makes me wonder if there is a kind of synesthesia going on in our brains there

I think organic or vivid is a better term than warm. I think synths that are very non-linear like PM synths or Aalto sound warm. As for warm digital pads I would go for granular synthesis or just just simple sampler and use a nice LP filter.

Software-Synthesizers should have a "MAKE ME HOT" knob that does introduce some irregularities in the sound production & adds some more harmonics to make the sound "warm"...
