I don't use PT and am not equipped for surround monitoring, but I believe you should be able to just insert it on a 5.1 track.conleec wrote:The video mentions that it's multi-channel capable, thru 5.1. Has anybody tried this? Particularly in Pro Tools? I'm curious if you can actually insert it on a 5.1 track without having to resort to a multi-mono instance? And if you can, how does it sound in surround?

If you look closely in the video when I mention multi-channel operation the metering on the interface shows six channels instead of just two: I was running it in a 5.1 wavelab montage, sending a stereo signal to just the first input pair, but with (different) reverb returning on the front and rear stereo outs. I can't really comment on the surround effect as I lack the rear speakers, but monitoring the rear channels in stereo gave me the impression that I'd switched to a more ambient pair of mics at the back of the hall...

Great, thanks for the info. I'm dying to try this reverb for post work, but I sure wish they had a demo available.IIRs wrote:I was running it in a 5.1 wavelab montage, sending a stereo signal to just the first input pair, but with (different) reverb returning on the front and rear stereo outs...monitoring the rear channels in stereo gave me the impression that I'd switched to a more ambient pair of mics at the back of the hall...

For what it's worth, Michael Carnes of Exponential Audio (and Lexicon prior to that) is going to announce a surround capable reverb in October, per his bio on the AES website. He'll be speaking on a panel and discussing reverb technique at the conference. I'll hold off on a purchase at least until his is released. His will have a demo available.
On the flip side, I have a feeling that his will cost more than Sparkverb. Maybe not though, since they've now set the bar in a way. I still think it would be in their best interests to offer a demo if they want to be taken seriously next to EA's upcoming offering, as I'm sure it will be stellar given his pedigree.

many verbs can sound pretty unpleasant with very long decays (big hard sounding slabs of noise) but I think they purposefully ended with that very 'sparkle' verb over the vocal at the end and I think they made their point - it was very beautiful...

Well I downloaded the demo a while back and it installed a HUGE amount of .dll files into the VSTplugins folder which is a big annoyance for me as I'm using Reaper to scan for the .dll filename instead of the actual plugin descriptor/real name. It's just the way I'm used to working with folders and plugins.TheoM wrote:Can you quickly explain what you mean by the vari verb issue as that one is also high on my list, being a truly superb reverb.bmanic wrote:Yeah, the lack of demo is very disheartening.. personally I really liked the sound of Sparkverb. It sits very nicely with the other stuff I have (Valhalla Room, Lexicon, Phoenix, Ariesverb and AA Verb, yeah I have too many verbs!).
Looking forward to try it out at some point.
I still think the next reverb I will buy is the Variverb 2 from Magix. That one is still on the top of my list and I really regret not buying it. Too bad I had some trouble with the demo (it dumps a MASSIVE amount of .dll files into the VSTplugins directory which is annoying as hell).
Cheers!

Other than that the demo worked flawlessly and was extremely impressive. The new v2.0 GUI is much better than the old one and it sounds as good as ever.
Not sure if you'd run into the same problems on Mac. It's well worth demoing. One of the better reverbs out there in my opinion.
Cheers!

It's not a file size issue, it's a dependency hell issue.
Plugins from companies like Voxengo or Slate Digital (just to name two) can freely be moved anywhere without installations/deinstallations and will _always_ (!) work as long as you have that one, monolithic .dll somewhere. It's just a lot more reliable and more portable.
