The price of the whole collection on Time + Space is pretty attractive, maybe this could be a nice and affordable option: http://www.timespace.com/product/WINST- ... ad%29.html?
I have the GWI collection. It's good for what it is and will fill the gap while you continue looking for the one that grabs you. Just don't get your hopes up too high with Garritan. It is what it is, and does it well enough, but it hasn't kept me from searching for the perfect duduk! Watch for their sales though, they seem to have one every couple of months or so. And I've been able to get online stores to beat their sale price by sending me the physical disk along with no tax or shipping for the same price as download only. Sometimes they've even beat the deal.

Does GWI include the raw sample wav files ? It is tempting, but im about broke here now so have to spend wisely....haha since i bought pretty much everything i was interested in this sale season. But this looks interesting..hmmmmm

Yep, this time of the year is really terrible for our pockets.

I'm also thinking about getting GWI: so far, are you enjoying the instruments, the ARIA Engine and so on? BBFG# already said it's interesting, although not groundbreaking, so I'd like to hear a 2nd opinion before I take the plunge. :D

And what about Bollywood Elements? Is it interesting? I was also thinking about Total India, but when I read your message about no download option, I decided to postpone it for a while. Even with free shipping, I don't want to wait a lot of time to receive it and take the risk to be heavily taxed by Brazilian Customs.

Gimme this weekend to explore sitar nation, GWI and bollywood elements and i'll get back to you.
If i spend anymore time in the studio my wife will kill me....

Great, I'll be waiting anxiously: thank you! :)

Despite the promises to my missus , i did manage an hour of testing last night..couldnt resist.

This is just a cursory attempt, and needs detailed testing but

GWI is definitely NOT authentic in any way or form. I dont know much about world instruments, but i know my indian instruments, and the ones here sounded mostly cringe worthy. Hissy sound, less dynamics. Maybe some of the other countries' stuff is good but India lost here. Sarangi sounds like a synth attempting a violin, yet the Sarangi drone sounds a little better (if buried in a mix). And the damn format is locked in something called .audio files. wtf ???

BUT i need to demo it further.

Bollywood Elements was actually quite good. Its not onshots but its very good samples, that are sorted by key and raag. The phrases are often long, allowing you to easily chop them up while keeping the amazing playing inflections. The playing and reccordings are excellent and a little rate or pitch adjustment does not effect it in any noticable way.

Sitar nation is very good oneshots with velocity layers and round robins. I am mapping it in tx16wx, but the provided Kontakt instrument looks very good too. It has four instruments (2 melodic, 2 percussion).

Bollywood Gold Sarangi Loops are acidized loops and better for loop based electronica , but you can chop em up in sampler and make your own instrument too (hard work but worth it). The recordings are good quality but needed classification by raags and more keys.

So so far, Im actually regretting buying GWI, but more detailed use tonight might give a clue.

In other news, the sarangi loops that i chopped up provided Alchemy with enough foder to come up with a pretty darn good sarangi , if i do say so myself. Buying that amazing instrument is some moneys i do not regret spending. Pretty much the only synth/rompler/resynthesis machine i'll ever need.

I have a like-hate relationship with GWI, can't say anything in it is perfect, and I've noticed I have days where I actually hate it and then come back to the very same sound the next day and like it quite well. But like I said before, it fills some gaps, but hasn't kept me from looking for better elsewhere. Another thing about GWI for me is I found it is a good when I layer with my AAS String-Studio, which for me, seems to give it more life. I also find doing some group arranging does come out much better in the mix than the solo instruments by themself.

Dynamics are not the best but I'm not getting hissy sounds at all. You might want to re-install? And make sure you install it first and then the Aria Player second (Current version is 1.6.2). Installs are picky with which gets loaded first.

One of my quests: I didn't like the duduk much in Kontakt, so I went for GWI, which is actually a little better IMO. And now I'm working on making a layered one in SampleTank that most days seem better than either. And I'm still waiting for SonicZest to add the update second layer to the duduk I bought from them.

And I have to say, I don't regret buying Alchemy either, but I haven't started adding my own samples yet.

Like I said, i need to demo it more. The percussion is usable from what i have heard. Any ideas how to get wavs outta the audio format ? Its using sfz files but a quick look showed that they are referencing the .audio files as well.

But try the main sarangi patch, it is noisy n hissy sounding. The sarangi drone patch is not. I foolowed the download n install instructions to the letter, but i will try updating just in case.

Wow, thanks for the quick and super complete message! It helped me a lot.

Well, I'll have to think about everything really carefully, to avoid spending money on things that won't be that useful at all. Anyway, I'm still interested in getting GWI, because it contains so many different world instruments that I'm pretty sure something might be actually useful someday.

That is exactly why i got it. A mid level ethnic rompler. Somethings bound to get used.

+1
And things do get used from it. For me, it was a logical next step from using Dimension which seems to be headed as abandonware for me. (It's a NFR that came with the package anyway, but I did spend some on a couple of DSF libraries).

But my big three for using ethnic based instruments are Kontakt5; SampleTank XL; Aria/Garritan. (In that order). I still may even open up Dimension if I can't find something readily usable in those though.

Really glad to know about it, specially because $100 for a 350 instruments library is definitely a bargain. I think I'll get GWI, then: to be honest, I really enjoyed most of the things I've heard from it so far.

I do enjoy a lot those DSF libraries. I was just playing right now with the Kontakt version of Planet Earth, and there are some surprisingly nice instruments there, specially taking into account the super small size of the library: only 105MB.

Best Service now has that 2-for-1 promotion: it would be great to get "Voices & Choirs" and "Instruments" from Ethno World 5 for half the original price.

I had a chance to use GWI some more...and combined with the mod wheel, key switches and legato cc's it is actually pretty alright

the key is definitely studying and listening to what you instrument you are trying to attempt.
