Loving this! Just used over the weekend in my AmbientOnline.org One Sample Challenge, added a serious "drifting soundscape" feel to "Poltergeist":

Thanks for making this, it's going to see a lot of use in my next few tracks!

Bump for version 1.4 update:
- added L+R, Mid and Side options for delay line inputs
- easier selection of inputs (button) and tap routings (menu on right or left click)
http://tonecarver.wordpress.com/delay8/
Have fun.

D'oh .. just in case anyone downloaded this today .. please re-download to get the updated version. The zip file had the previous version but that should be fixed now.

You can configure a ping-pong delay by setting the Tap % to 50% on one line and 100% on another line. The 'ping pong' preset shows this setup. Admittedly not the most intuitive approach.lesha wrote:Nice delay! How about adding a ping-pong mode?
And ENV1 skins as default?
And yes, I would like to build in the ENV1 skin, maybe as an option or something, but I am busy on a different project at the moment so that is not likely to happen soon ... Hopefully someday.

Ah, sorry.. I am not a big preset guy.
I have noticed a strange thing, ping pong in Nasty DLA (my favorite delay) and NI Replika are not the same as in Delay8.
I have made a 1/8d ping pong in Nasty DLA and Replika, but in Delay8 I had to choose 1/4d to get the same type of delay.
Is that intentional?
By the way, I love the input saturation in Nasty DLA, could you add something like that?
Cheers

Well, sort of. Not so much intentional, per se .. more of a by-product of the internal architecture.lesha wrote:Ah, sorry.. I am not a big preset guy.![]()

I would guess that Nasty DLA and Replika probably use a more traditional feedback routing to perform their ping-pong delays, where the output of each delay line in a pair is fed back to itself and to the other line, forming a circular criss-cross path. Nice, simple, straightforward.
Delay8 uses only cascaded delay lines. Each delay line feeds back into itself, and can send its output to other delay lines, but it does not allow circular paths. So Delay8 cannot do a traditional ping-pong but it can do a pseudo-ping-pong by adjusting the Tap%. The Tap% controls where new input is inserted into a delay line. This allows you to set the duration of the first echo to be different than the duration of all subsequent echoes from feedback. If the Tap% is 100, the first echo and all echoes from feedback are at the delay time of the delay line. When Tap% is 50, the first echo is 50% of the delay line time, and subsequent echoes from feedback are at 100%. It is the "first echo at 50% of delay time" characteristic that requires that the configured delay time be twice the (desired) effective delay time.
I know, not so straightforward, but ping-pong was not a goal for this design. Adding circular routing would be non-trivial at this point, not impossible, but would require some major re-design.
Possibly, but not anytime soon.lesha wrote: By the way, I love the input saturation in Nasty DLA, could you add something like that?

Is this delay still available? I am trying to download the plugin from your dropbox link but the zip file shows up as unavailable.
Thank you for any help you can provide!
The download link is dead, so if anyone can provide a link or a way to get it, would appreciate.
Thank you.
