VST closest to Virus A/B?

Just want to add this quote from Sasha bigging up Alchemy at the Camel Audio site:
"This synth is going to be all over my next record. I haven't touched my Virus in weeks!"

Not that i want to start a discussion about this kind of thing... but i find it interesting that there are loads of threads like these, asking for software equivalents for hardware synths, while there's only very few threads in the other direction. The most mentioned soft synth in that regard would be Sylenth, which many want to replace, especially due to its lack of development, and 64-bit mac version. It's interesting how certain hardware synths get this kind of "legendary" status, while the same doesn't really apply to soft synths. I know that it's not exactly the case here, as the OP just seems to be eager to have a replacement for doing sketches mostly, but to me, there seems to be some sort of "psychological" thing involved in most cases. Hardware always seems to have some "legend status" potential, even though in most cases, there's software which is on par, or even better. Don't get me wrong, i don't want to criticize that, and i don't think anyone including me is immune to that, just find it interesting.

One Ping Only is legendary and I have yet to find a hardware replacement for it despite having spent £thousands trying to find one. Any ideas?

Virus sounds like shit. Ok, Ed Rush uses one. I won't argue with him. He makes a Casio sound good.Kriminal wrote:Numanoid wrote:Just want to add this quote from Sasha bigging up Alchemy at the Camel Audio site:

Virus:
1: Synth1
2: Sylenth
3: V-Station
4: Z3t4
5: Albino
6: Zebra
Let's face it, they all sound better than a virus. The most horrible awful stinking pile of shit I ever heard. I wish I was trolling. But, god I hate this synth, almost as much as the people that use it (with the exception of Ed Rush of course). I'm trying to think of a synth I hate more. Maybe some Roland junk.
I bet money, that no Virus owner could tell the difference between that piece of shit, and say Alchemy or even Zebra, in a blind test. Whatever they are prepared to bet, I would double.
Kvr.
It's like coming home.
10 years of this shit now.
And another 10 to come.

No, he is saying that Alchemy is going to be all over his next record, and that he hasn't touched his Virus in weeks.Kriminal wrote:So Alchemy sounds more like a Virus than his erm....Virus
I interpret that as it sounding a lot better than a Venom, but not as good as a Waldorf synth.

And BT said Alchemy is the best synth he ever used. I mean, one of the hundred best synths he has... not to say it's bad, but artist statements are mainly marketing bogus. There doesn't even have to be money involved, both sides profit from it.

I really need to get this synth. I've been whoring all over the block since I got Alchemy Player. I'm almost afraid of how much it will 'absorb' me.
Then I need to get Zebra.
That will be, if not the Alpha to Omega, for me, then at least the Alpha to Zeta, no that's not right, I've got that one. Scrap that crap analogy.
The A to Z. That's it.
One day I'll grab Alchemy and Zebra. I don't see them ever being surpassed. We have hit peak VST I think. Sure some will do variations on a theme, but the integrity of these synths can't be bettered, I don't think.
I've got over a thousand hard won sounds for Alchemy with its player. It's just amazing in its sound. Zebra, the demo is very generous. Made a few tracks with quickly rendering that off.
Virus?
Man, what century is this. Those two synths blow it out of the water for versatility and sound. I only used a Virus B for a bit, and that is it, but nothing else I have heard convinces me otherwise. Then again, they look great. I'd have six of them in a rack if I could afford it.

And what has that got to do with the OP?
He didnt ask for a synth that sounds 'better' than a virus.
