As a small commercial synth programmer, I can tell that finding the right price is very difficult.
It's taken me a long time but I think I've found the right spot now.
And as a reaction to Cyforce, my soundsets are cheaper than most of the competion but not because they are sub-par. They cost what they cost because when I started out (and I still think the same way now), I wanted to make affordable banks. I could charge twice as much and then slash the prices by 50% every two months to get attention and give the buyer the impression he's saving a lot of money but that's not just me.
And to the OP, if some banks are too expensive, nobody is forcing you to buy them. Just move on and use that frustration as motivation to roll your own patches. Sound design can be very rewarding.

The fact is SOUNDBANKS are often overpriced because they are banks where you have to accept what you don't want or need with what appeals to you. I would be more prone to shop for sounds if I could buy what I want without having to buy all the filler that comes with it. It's akin to the pharmaceutical companies adding yeast and dyes to an antibiotic.
All the OP will get here is 'designers justification' though. It won't change how they sell the bloat in their products.
