Well, you're probably right, I want a synth that's versatile, that can do from smooth pads to strident leads, that's why i voted and prefer Dune2. But, for some reason when i hear sylenth1, there is something in its sound (I always thought it was its filters, but could be wrong) that is special, making it sound good alone and when mixed with other stuff, I get the same feeling sometimes with other synths. I have over a dozen of them, some very known, that sound "too digital" (like Z3TA+ 2) i always thought it was their filters.

BTW Z3TA has a modulation scheme which is in some aspects more powerful than D2, only 16 slots (vs 32 in d2) but you can do really complex stuff with them

I have Sylenth1 and also a demo of Dune2.

I love them both. You face a bit of a conundrum here.

Sylenth is well worth getting. Its well designed, very easy to learn and use, and its been around long enough to be stable and dependable.

Unfortunately the long-awaited update (to please 64bit DAW users) is behind schedule. But don't let that stop you from getting it because Lennar Digital have teamed up with 32Bit Lives so you can run the current 32bit release in 64 Bit DAW's. Problem is, none of us know what the deal will be for updating. Will there be a price to pay for the update? Will there be a new synth altogether like Sylenth2 perhaps?

Now: Dune2

First impression is that its awesome. I might even consider it a cheaper alternative to Spectrasonics Omnisphere (geared towards Pad sounds) which is very pricey. But Dune2 is not quite ready to be dependable and is lacking a few basic features. Its missing a Latch function for its arpeggiator and that's a huge disappointment for me because I couldn't play if my life depended on it. And I see in the Synapse forum the usual gripes and feature requests that will eventually make this a very popular and affordable synth. Good news it being 32/64bit across plugin formats and OS platforms. I'm gonna buy it too, but only if its a fraction better.

I'm lead to believe that Synthmaster is quite good. I just can't look at it, sends shivers down my spine.

Dune2 is very special it cannot be easy replaced with another synth because this layering/Unison stuff is very unique and can create very thick and big sounds.
I was talking to Rueban from LD, and he was saying that development was still going on. So, I think we are likely to see a new release at some point (but it could be a long time). But it's one to watch for the future. :)

But I'd agree, it should be about Spire Vs Dune 2 (or maybe Diva).

Of course it's in the interests of the company to say it is still being developed cause otherwise sales would be affected... but 5 years and still no 64bit OSX version does not fit my definition of development. As they say, actions speak louder than words.

Yeah, I guess it could be that (hope not tho'). But at least there are loads good synths to choose from these days. :)

No price: Free Sylenth1 AU 64 bit update, end of 2014. Issue: Apple has decided to drop the graphical interface support which Lennard used to create Sylenth1, this means all of Sylenth has to been programmed from the bottom up. Sylenth2 altogether: maybe yes and with some anti-piracy system, like a dongle a-la Nexus2...

What I love most about these threads are the posts from people saying how they've moved on from Sylenth and don't miss a thing. I do love those posts. Really.

Travel where I travel, from Lennard's forum to Instruments, same people with the same posts praising the post-Sylenth landscape. Like a pair of comfortable slippers, it makes me feel strangely nostalgic, in a nice way of course.

Lovely, indeed.

Anyway, DUNE 2 is better than Sylenth1, and should be matched with a more capable synth, like Spire. No, note even Spire. Sylenth1 is limited, old and expensive for what it does. Now, a Sylenth2..that would be quite something I'm sure!

i loved sylenth1, but abandoned it when i moved to logicX. for the record, i begged lennard for a 64bit AU for years. sad it's taken so long, and now...probably late 2014. still, it's a great, great synth.

dune2 is it's own thing, and lovely. a deep, musical sound. am using it a lot, and have barely scratched the surface.
one of my new faves...
