Um... I get what they are trying to do. A cheap synth that sounds relatively nice aimed more for the education market.

But even my, 'not so basic' synths can do, well... basic stuff. So if you've got at least one subtractive synth then I'm not sure I see a need for this.

Also, surely educators will be gravitating to a certain DAW, which will have a basic synths included.

I bought it but i don't think i'll keep it. GUI is brilliant, the sound is good as well but it simply does't offer anything i can't achieve with Monark or Circle - or any other synth for that matter.

Which of course is the whole point of this thing, it's an inexpensive, shiny, comprehensive plugin with a perfect manual - ideal synth for starters. YMMV, of course - check it out, if you don't like it you'll get your money back without a problem, AD return policy works flawlessly.

Did i mention that the GUI is beautiful? :D

Indeed. I mean, educational, what difference does it make whether the synth as two or three oscillators? As long as it has two the instructor can demonstrate everything there is to know.
The final price of 50 bucks is a bit high for such a simple plugin these days...

Well, if the sound is good or has its own character, then that might be a reason to keep it. Bu as you say, all the features are standard (with everything as well).

I did like the sound of the demo - but I'd like to hear more.

Yeah, I think your right there. Plus, $50 isn't that cheap for something so basic, that will probably be covered by a DAW's own synth. I wonder would they offer deals for bulk buys? That's only way I'd see it selling.

GUI looks cool...

Dear Audio Damage,
I am a very mature (8th year and counting) student of philosophy and Sumerian languages, can I get an educational license? :hihi:

I like the idea of what they're doing here. Sure I can probably do a lot of the same things with any poly synth out there, but it's the limitations that make it quick and easy to get those basic sounds that are just right. The demo sounds like it would make a good synth for layering in modern EDM. I could imagine a bunch of these going on in one track. The GUI looks incredible too, definitely a synth I would like to have in my minimal collection.

GUI looks nice. Unfortunatelly no demo so I haven't been able to test how it sounds.

But even without testing I dare to predict that this one will soon get a high scoring review in CM Magazine.
No band limits, aliasing is the noise of freedom!

Very different from your GUI's ;)

Yes... They seem to give glowing reviews for everything. :?

Purchased this afternoon and had a play around, I like it, yes its simple, but that'll do for me, it's another synth for me to play around with, it does what it says on the tin. Without loads of features and the great GUI, will def help folk find their way around simple synthesis.

I saved a few sounds for it and uploaded them to:
http://www.kvraudio.com/product/basic-b ... /downloads

some of them sound nice and musical through valhalla vintage verb.

Yeah, pretty much everything is 8/10 or better. I don't recall ever seeing anything less than 7/10, and I'm pretty sure I've only ever seen that once.

(I anticipate Statto will be along to prove us all wrong).

I'm predicting an 8/10 for Basic. I bought it, but I'm a bit of an AD fanboi.

I guess it's hard to rate it by comparing it to other more full featured synths. That said, there's nothing wrong with have a basic synth if it sounds good and gets you there quickly.

Mojito is a great example, and was a nice surprise in S1. Basically a 1 Osc synth with nice fat filters and basic modulation. I still use it quite a bit. :)

Looks nice, but to me Charlatan does all of this (basic subtractive synth) and it's free, no?
