Rather than yourself? There are people that really get off on my music. I think that's because they like the same things I do. I'm not terribly interested in people that like things I don't or hate things I love. And they're in the majority position typically.

What's fulfilling? I mainly make house/techno stuff and sometimes when I listen to my tracks and feel the urge to get up and dance and go mental, then I know I've done something right.

There is a pleasure to be had in challenging myself and improving my own skills. I also find applying a little creativity to any activity to be rewarding in itself. This can be applied in many ways, there's creativity behind cooking a meal or using a map instead of a sat-nav.

As it stands i love music more than anything else, so applying my creativity to the making of music makes sense, although it is far less profitable than other creative pursuits i could do or have done.

Enjoying making music and taking pleasure from listening to music are very different things, by no means mutually exclusive although there is clearly an overlap. I enjoy listening to (some of) my own tunes but can't listen to them in the same way i do with other artists.

I have wondered similarly, as I have met musicians -- working professional musicians -- who simply don't eat sleep drink and breath music. It's like they do music as their day job (so to speak) and at no other moment in life are they "an artist" first. I don't know if becoming a professional has 'cured them' or if they never 'had it' in the first place.

Similar things happen on the production side. I know a person with a fairly sophisticated recording studio. He seems to actually not enjoy music at all. Nothing about it interests him. But he does seem to have one thing that I admire: When something is done, it's *done* period.

And it's not just the fine arts professions. I've got quite a few colleagues who are also software developers. But when we get together, I tend to be the only one who really and truly has a software development *vocation.* For others, it's something you do for a job, meaning there's something else you'd rather be doing, and the minute you step away from your workplace, you've got no connection to it whatsoever. To me, that's weird -- and tragic. It means you chose your career on poor judgment. *But* all these people who aren't actually passionate about what they do? They *all* make more money and have more job security than me. So who am I to judge?

I would not recommend going into 'producing music', as IMO much of the benefit of learning to play music is being able to express yourself, so I would alway recommend learning to play an instrument before you start thinking about production values.

I think being able to pick up an instrument and play is a lot more fulfilling than making music without much idea of how it is made.

I am interested in learning an instrument. If i am as interested in making music 6 months from now, as i am today, I will attend a year long school course which starts in august which involves playing instruments & music theory. And it's free because i live in Denmark(God bless), but until then my options are private courses which are expensive or the internet/books.

But at the moment i'm learning music theory & trying to learn how to use a daw.
