Exactly my experience with DC8C2 AND Presswerk.Rah wrote:That's my experience, completely.a-type wrote:I've "moved on" from DC8C2, in the sense that I just don't find myself using it that much anymore. My understanding of compressor science is too primitive for the advanced features of DC8C2, and the four "Simple" modes rarely seem to hit the spot for me I'm afraid.
I got Presswerk, and it just makes a lot more immediate sense to me, it sounds great, and I can still dig into it and discover new things I can do with it
Presswerk's interface led me to believe that it sounds divine but I gathered otherwise upon closing my eyes and switching between it and some other random compressor. not that it sounds bad (on the contrary. AAMOF, being u-He's it CAN'T sound bad. by its definition) but it's not as what I have thought (THAT IS, O'COURSE, MY OPINION).
IMO, being THAT flexible (with both DC8C and Presswerk) has its toll : its not immediate.
A compressor (again IMO) should be immediate. as in "insert-set-next". very quickly one finds himself with way too many features to fiddle with when actually in most cases he doesn't even needs to (but they ARE there to start with, which oftentimes makes a very simple task, very cumbersome - as you just NEED to know if there are "better" options with that given processor)
As of now PnM Retro/optical comp is what I moved to (with Kotelnikov on the 2BUS).
