It's a trap :hihi:

The reality is, lots better gear won't help you make better music. The gear can only make it faster / more convenient.

Luckily I'm not a gear head and feel satisfied with relatively small setup.

I guess I don't really see how the "we spend lots of money on gear" part relates to the "no-one cares" part. Like most people here, I'm a hobbyist who enjoys making music in my spare time and, yeah, it's cool that people like it, listen to it, even buy some of it. But, that has no relationship to how much money I've spent. I buy stuff because I like trying and owning new stuff, not because I think it will make more people listen to my music. With the exception of my recording front end (i.e., mics, preamps, compressors, interface), I could have made pretty much the same songs with a cheap laptop, a DAW with bundled plugins, and a handful of freebie plugins.

If you really want people to listen to and "like" your music these days, you need to be on SoundCloud, ReverbNation, FB, etc., listening to everybody else and leaving comments. As a casual observer, that seems to be the formula these days - buy listens/likes/follows with listens/likes/follows.

Of course, they're tools. Same as buying 100 pencils won't make you a better drawer. But learning to draw will...

On the other hand, there are also people who like to experiment with new pencils instead of drawing professional drawings...as long as they don't harm anyone with all their pencils, they can collect them till they die... :hihi:
