Good news to fellow PACE haters!
I got in touch with their customer support, and they said that in the future they will release a version that uses their own improved C/R system, once they get it up and running. There was no time frame given though, but it's still good to hear that they're not moving strictly to PACE authorization.

I'm not really bothered by it either.hivkorn wrote:honnestly i prefer have the licence on Ilok than C/R...

Thank you for posting this info! The info has significant importance to me as I have always liked Wave Arts as a company thus I was surprised to see Pace only option on their website. The pace only method just didn't fit what I knew of Wave Arts who have always been customer-friendly and fair, and was always a good company for us dongle-haters to turn to. To use solely draconian copy-protection is out of character for them. Your email proves they are the customer-friendly company I always thought they were before my mis-understanding.Eleventh wrote:Good news to fellow PACE haters!

I guess it's only right for me to take back the negative things I said about Wave Arts in my first post. My apologies indeed! And I will be demoing this new Tube Saturator 2 when it is available as C/R and I more than likely will buy it if it has improved in sound quality as Wave Arts has claimed (and I'm sure it has).
I just don't like Pace or dongles and have had bad experiences with both when I had them as well as many other people. ILOK is just another clever way of squeezing more money out of users with all its fees and hidden fees while not truly giving the user anything in return. The reality is one ends up paying more for their software and often have more limitations in return such as the ilok only can go on one computer at a time, more fees, and inconveniences (having to deal with multiple companies and accounts wich eats up more time for demos, purchased plugins, and when something goes wrong; traveling with dongles is also inconvenience, etc). And I don't need any bloat-ware software running on my computer doing nothing of true value for me only being another single-point-of-failure (both pace and ilok are another single-point-of-failure so there is two unnecessary risks added), especially since I do have other options that sound just as good if not better (Acon Digital Verberate, IK T-RackS, STW-Audio Reflex, Sonic Charge, Izotope, etc; Plus my main choice the Sonic Core SCOPE dsp Platform). I really can't ever imagine me ever feeling the need of anything on the ILOK platform, if anything I already have too many plugins and don't need anymore from any platform let alone ilok. Many of us already have an 'embarrassment of riches' so there is no leverage for the ilok plugin companies for our demographic. I chose my preferred hardware protection when I chose SCOPE and preferred software protection with C|R, serial number/file and I operate just fine within those limits, I have more than enough great tools and this has been the case for many many years now.
I'm not crazy about C|R either and don't buy too many plugins that rely on it anymore, and as my arsenal of non-C/R plugins grow i'll eventually get to the point where I don't buy C/R anymore either. But I have always been willing to make reasonable compromises and for many reasons C|R has been that in the past and presently.
PS. I am glad Wave Arts is offering a solution for both parties those who love ilok and pace and those who hate them. Offering both demographics what they prefer is intelligent and fair.

T2 Icarus is a must. SonicCore SCOPE is the most. As heart of studio it has my vote, cause XITE-1 is all she wrote.

Hello KVR list,
Piping in from Wave Arts central here...
We will be sending an email blast about TS-2 later today. In the meantime, to address some questions:
Existing Tube Saturator 1 users can upgrade to TS-2 for 50% off. Please email support@wavearts.com and we will reply with an upgrade discount coupon. Note that TS-2 requires Pace licensing. Also, TS-2 will install side by side with original Tube Saturator 1, it won't overwrite it, so you can run them both. We will continue to host original Tube Saturator downloads and registrations indefinitely, and may release new updates if there are important bug fixes.
Regarding Pace licensing, we offer dual Pace / Wave Arts challenge-response for all our existing products. Releasing TS-2 with just the Pace option is a bit of an experiment. We have no plans to move to Pace exclusively for other products. Instead we plan to rework our own licensing system to make it easier to use and release a TS-2 update with a non-Pace option later this year.
Regarding some personal motivation behind TS-2:
It's been a goal of mine to be able to be able to input a circuit schematic specification and automatically generate a realtime effect. Tube Saturator 1 used straight circuit simulation technology, like SPICE, and it worked but was really CPU intensive and impossible to do more complicated circuits, like complete guitar amps, compressors, etc. So to speed things up, TS-2 uses tables of precalculated data output from a circuit simulator. This general technique should be able to produce sims of complicated circuits, but it still takes a lot of manual intervention, it's not at all "automatic". In fact, it was a ton of work for something that on its face is a pretty simple distortion effect. I've been rather fixated on simulation accuracy and may well have lost all perspective. I do hope people like the sound of it.
Cheers,
Bill Gardner

Err... Just one quick question. I'd like to buy it asap, but I still haven't received a promo code. Do I need to send in the details again? It's just seems that everyone seems to have got theirs.
PS - I like ilok too! (now I'd better duck after saying that).

Hi Bill, looking forward to this! I couldn´t even install the Pace software on my laptop, so looking forward to actually test the plugin.bgardner8008 wrote:-- Instead we plan to rework our own licensing system to make it easier to use and release a TS-2 update with a non-Pace option later this year.

If you actually bothered to read the reply by the WaveArts guy - instead of the apologistic blathering how totally awesome and lovable PACE is - you'd have your answer already. Ok I'll shut up now as the licensing matter seems to have been dealth with... Lets get back to the topic.
