Agreed!

Speakers have specific designs to serve specific purpose.

IMO you will be disappointed with a studio monitor for hi-fi listening.
Yep. I have 2 pairs of speakers connected to my comp too, one for listening to music and gaming, and the other for pure music production purpose. Especially games audio is made to be listened to on hi-fi speakers, it just isn't the same on more "analytic" speakers. So i'd also recommend a hi-fi system for pure music listening purposes.

No surround, for a few reasons:

1. My ESI Juli@ doesn't do surround, and it's noticeably better than the builtin audio of my mobo.
2. I don't wanna re-organize my room because of speakers.
3. I don't like how music sounds on my brother's Cambridge THX 550 5.1 system. I prefer the sound of my T20s for music.

Regardless, I already picked up the Resolv A8 3 hours ago. I like them so far. Still need to find a way to have the tweeters at my ears' level. Bass is great, loud and I can separate notes, which I actually can't do on the aforementioned THX 550 system.
I checked some movie trailers and they sound freaking amazing. Can't wait for the weekend to watch a movie or two with these massive speakers.
Did I say massive? Yes, they are absolutely massive, and so is their volume - and they still sound clear on volumes I'll never have the courage to listen at.

Indeed they are. :D
Also, the guy who sold me the speakers was nice enough to give me 2-3 days to return them if I don't like them.
That's mostly because I had to check them at his apartment with my phone, because he had no computer or anything to connect them to.

ah, you ended up with a8's vs the 6's ?? sounds like you are really enjoying them which, like i said, is the only thing to consider

have fun :tu:

The guy selling the A6 kept saying "tomorrow" for 5 days, so I said **** it when I found another guy selling the A8 for the same price.

Hey guys, I was hoping to negate the need to open a new thread by asking here:

These monitors are active, so each has its own volume knob. Unfortunately, the volume knobs only click on volume level 5 out of 10, so it's hard to match their volume precisely at other volumes (5 is way too loud), and I also feel that the sound is not 100% balanced between the speakers.

So, can I set them both to 5, which will ensure their volume levels are the same, and then control the volume digitally, by using the Master slider of the ESI Juli@ control panel?

Thanks.

Edit: What I meant is, is it advisable or should I avoid adjusting the volume digitally?

Aren't you using an audio interface?

Post

No. Just an audio card, to which they are directly connected.

Probably best to use the volume slider on the ESI interface if there's no physical control ... or you could reduce the volume level of your media player.

Thanks.

Under normal and ideal circumstances they should be powered equally.

However, there may be reasons to give each speaker a different amount of power. It may be the circuitry of a speaker has weakened, or the placement may cause a speaker to sound lower in volume.

With anything audible, the best rule to follow is to make it sound good to you to satisfy your listening pleasure. Nothing need be set in stone.

Regarding using another piece of hardware to control, if it works for you and you want to include it in your setup, go for it. No rule that says you can't do it your way.

Keep in mind though that the more complicated your setup the more that can go wrong, and ultimately will of course ;)

Generally, I keep my amp at a static level, about 50% power per channel, to my passive speakers, and adjust the gain to the amp via a control room matrix. Samson C-Control. Great little device for controlling sound levels. :tu:

I don't feel like adding another device to my setup... I don't want my room to look like a studio with all kinds of studio gear. I think I'll just use the Juli@ control panel and set the speakers to level 5 volume.

OK, I didn't raise the volume to level 5 because they I wouldn't have enough play with the digital volume controls. So I put my phone approximately where I seat and used a sound level measurement app to check the volume of each speaker and got a perfect match of 86db after a little tweaking.

Also subscribed to Tidal (HiFi) (FLAC streaming service) and discovered the true capabilities of these speakers. :)
