But I'm additionally bitter because I spent £10 on this plugin, and the developer never sent it to me.

The best VST is the one with the most impressive photorealistic GUI. It also have to be very expensive. For marketing proposes, it should use buzzwords like "pro" and "analog". The number of this kind of VST are legion.
