If I'm not mistaken, this is to make it more difficult to pirate.
The old key file could easily be distributed with the exe and would more or less always work. The activation file is probably hardcoded with a timestamp so it stops working after 72 hours. But I don't know if the plugin phones home for activation?

But then again, I personally really don't care.

I was offered the upgrade for €9 but when I get to checkout after applying the discount code the price is £9.64 ... which is €13.20. The 20% VAT doesn't account for the €4.20 difference which is 45% higher than the quoted price. Anyone else in the UK getting this price?

I wonder what you're doing. The TAX at my end (23%) is included in the EUR 9 upgrade price. Total upgrade price = EUR 9.

I logged into my account first and went to the COUPONS page. They proceeded from there.
