Better than Guitar Rig or Amplitube?
Magma is not meant to compete with either........of course you can run your guitar through it and I do but only for the EQ and Delay etc. I don't use any of the included Distortion racks for guitar. But you could run Guitar Rig or Amplitube inside of Magma.......

No, they're not.......just a heads up on that.......

My comments on this release from the last thread (which could have still be used) still remain.

Doesn't matter if there is an introduction price or not.

No they really really aren't....on a proper system. They sound fine here....or I wouldn't have recommended them...........

Anyway I agree that a demo of either product is a good idea before purchasing either or both. No telling what the quality of Multipass's effects will be. I owned their "One" synth and sold it pretty quickly....it was "bog standard".........

I'd agree with your post. Looks like a nice set of tools - but over priced. Maybe if there's a deal on at some point. But I'll check out the Blue Cat that Theo recommended first. :)

Noob here once again, Why is this plugin considered 'overpriced'? When I see singular plugins are $200 etc?

And if one might argue that those $200 plugins are more in depth than the Kilohearts built-in plugins, isn't something like SoundToys decapitator disgustingly overpriced despite it also being simple? (in this comparison, I'm not judging it, i've never used it) :?: :ud: Those $19 plugins are simple, but as a whole package with the interface it is really fun, possibilities are boundless and still it has a great sound and workflow too IMO.

Sorry, I hope I don't sound like I'm ranting, I definitely am not trying to, I am really quite curious as to why people are saying its overpriced, especially with the deal right now.

PS: I am currently doing the 30 day demo and the product is extremely-extremely fun! Like the most fun i've had since I can remember just %$@&ing with sounds :hyper: :hyper: , but I am a beginner so take it with a grain of salt perhaps! . :tu: :tu:

EDIT: Also, quick question to Kilohearts, Do Faturator and Disperser also implement into the Multipass interface like the other 17 snap-ins?

Post

Yes they do.

I tried the free snap-ins and they didn't impress me, they sound quite vanilla (I uninstalled them immediately); the very basic effects included with any daw are at least as good. Effects like those by Soundtoys are "character" effects: you may get similar results (to some degree) with other tools but you have to get them if you want exactly that sound. That's why Soundtoys can charge premium.

So, the only feature of worth considering of this product may reside in the multiband host with modulation, but again there are various alternatives that give you deeper possibilities (for example being able to use your favourite vst plugins). Also, the price for multipass with all the current 17 snapins is close to the full price of Reaktor 6 (199€ Reaktor, 179€ Multipass + 17 snapins) and, given the popularity of the NI products which qualify for update/crossgrade, I guess a lot of people qualify to get it for just 99€ (for comparison, you have to spend at least 89€ to get just Multipass and the 5 free snapins).

Multipass gui seems very well designed, very straightforward to work with (looking at the promo videos, I didn't try the demo). I guess it is very fast and easy to work with, so that's its selling point in my opinion.

But, if you have to choose between a nice workflow with limited features or a slightly more complex workflow but with a universe of possibilities for roughly the same price, I guess many people will choose the second.
