Yes, he's US, out of California if I remember correctly.baggio wrote:Is Kirk Hunter US based (the name should be enough to confirm yes). I am quite interested but the amount of tax to pay on top to import into the UK

My winning January KVR entry uses extensively the Kirk hunter solo strings:

Apparantly the strings come on 20 DVDs on a spindle to save on cost so maybe I could convince customs that they are blank disks

Look at the credits for this, it's all the same person. I don't like the idea of 1 person playing all the parts (unless it's me on a synth), but really I don't really understand how this can be such a large library? Is it supersized?
This is not recorded in a hall on a stage is it? It seems to be a studio. But all the same person playing the instruments? Sounds odd

The only credits I see are for recording:

That isnt quite the same as being played by 'all the same person'.Recording credits:

Viola: Kirk Hunter
Cello: Kirk Hunter, John Krovoza
Double Bass: Kirk Hunter

Actually, only if you don't buy the Horizon packages. Otherwise, it's well above 300Gb.tomlad21, Vienna has a 240Gb library (6000$ !!!!)....
I still recall those old days when my 560Gb looked impressive

That doesn't bug me. On the other hand, I don't like the idea of all section (divisi) parts being played on the same physical instrument!glaucomys wrote:Look at the credits for this, it's all the same person. I don't like the idea of 1 person playing all the parts

Here's what I'm not keen on:
'Solo instruments are recorded dry, close mic'ed while the remaining sectional instruments are recorded in close and far mic'ed positions. Hunter explained that the samples carry some ambiance, but not enough to lock the composer into the sound of a specific hall. Thus, outside reverb can be used for final sound shaping.'
Real hall ambience is exactly what I do want. Layering reverb over sampled ambience is just not going to sound that good, I think. Some of the demos for EWQLSO gold are absolutely gorgeous - no convolution reverb can acheive that kind of sound.

I like that very much... That allows using solo instruments to write chamber music !chagzuki wrote:Here's what I'm not keen on:

Or, you want any solo instrument in a song or in a not orchestral track, you don't want it to have it with the hall ambiance...
I agree that make them harder to mix with the sections...

I took that paragraph to mean that the far-mic samples are not with a large enough ambience to sound symphonic, or have I misunderstood & is it just refering to the close-mic samples?

Maybe it's marketing to say people that they will be able to apply the ambience they want and are not dependent on the one included in the sample...
Don't know...
