Stranded on desert island and you can only have 1 VST synth...which one?

Microtonic, because for me drums are the most important part of a song. It can also do enormous basses and you can play melodies when enabling the Pitched MIDI Mode. It is very light on CPU and has a tiny size, so I'll have lots of HDD space for pr0n...

That would be a hard choice between Hive or Sylenth1...hmmm...I guess it would be Hive if I really must choose.

why would you take a vst synth on a desert island. For starters you need a computer, then you need to plug it in. Where are you gonna find the power?
If you were on a desert island and you could take just one thing wouldn't water or food be priority?

From your list I would choose NI Massive. It can do most everything with a very nice layout/design and without being heavy on the CPU. But, it is a very difficult choice against the others (like Zebra and SynthMaster, Omnisphere, ..etc).Jack3l wrote:I think this was a post topic way back in 2004 - but I wanted to see what people would choose and why since technology has moved on to where we are in 2016?
I will be limiting myself to just one synth as a creative experiment as I have never tried and I simply have too many VST synths (I think I am some sort of synth hoarder or something) that I am struggling to focus on finishing any tracks.
In my case it may have to be the old Alchemy (before Apple) - partly because it is really flexible in terms of modulation, it is a pretty good sounding synth, and it has the ability to load in samples and do some Granulization and some Additive to boot.
I admit I was torn between the following in my collection:
Alchemy
NI Massive
Serum
NI FM8
Omnisphere 2
UHE Zebra
Synthmaster 2.7
NI Reaktor 6
Cycling 74 Max 7
FL Studio Harmor
UHE Diva
UHE Bazille
NI Razor
NI Rounds
So what VST synth would you pick and why?
For my own setup, it would be a big fight between NI Massive and Dune 2. Dune 2 is relatively easier to program (for me), but Massive has a better visual presentation of the modulation. If I add Blofeld to my No.1 candidates, I think that Blofeld will be the winner because I know it better than the others and it can do almost everything I need. (still Reaktor Razor beat it in edgy sharp digital sounds, and Monark beat it in analog bass/leads, other than that, it is a great all round synth). Massive and Dune come after Blofeld in an equal place!
Why not three different synths? This, I believe, would make it easier for you to find the exact sound you want. I would limit myself to Diva, Razor and FM8 (from your list). I would choose synths that easy to program and have very different characters.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I would just take a microphone instead.

Whoever wants music instead of noise, joy instead of pleasure, soul instead of gold, creative work instead of business, passion instead of foolery, finds no home in this trivial world of ours.

We don't need "list your favourite plugins " threads at KVR. All threads at KVR should be reasonable and infromative.

This to me makes a more interesting question. You have the resources of the town, but only 24 hours at a time until it gets reset.Michael L wrote:Why a desert island? Why not the best synth if you are.....

And most importantly, you don't age. Bill Murray's character got it right -- he picked one musical instrument and learned to master it (Over who knows? 20 years?).
