I'm pretty sure you misunderstood what he wrote. He misses it because he used to use it in Live and now he uses another DAW, perhaps.

LOL...and Propellerhead mentioned at the time of the R8 release to one of the members on their forum that the midi/creating a new track problem was going to be fixed in an 8.x update, but that they didn't have the time to include it in the official release.

Still waiting...and it really should have been done when Record was released...Seven years later...new tracks galore...

I really hope that isn't all the new version is. I had to get Reason 8 for a class and am very disappointed in it. Its a poor daw compared to others these days.

It's a funny old world.

10+ years ago Properllerhead were lauded as one of the best software companies out there. A company that understood what their users needed and was responsive.

Up until Reason 6.5 I looked forward with excitement to each new release and what new features, and devices, it would bring.

Then came Rack Extensions and it was immediately obvious that this was the beginning of the end. A few months later I sold up.

Now look at what they have become ... a company that had to close its own forums because of the criticism it was getting.

Whether this press release on 9 is true or not, would anybody be surprised by such a lacklustre update?

At least with iZotope I can understand that they were bought by a bunch of venture capitalists, but Propellerheads? I expected better.

Thanks for your information on iZotope; it sure explains a LOT regarding how unbelievably silly the company is. Yes -- Ozone is on a yearly upgrade trajectory, thereby making it akin to Cubase with it's yearly, unsaid dues for new versions, though not as bad as a pure subscription model I suppose.

Iris 2 was a joke and I paid $249 for it. All the major media outlets tout(ed) it so much and it does do some things OK -- but the CPU load is unbearable, Alchemy in Logic is better in many respects with it's Spectral Engine, and it sits on my shelf. I haven't checked into how much I could resell it for, if I do go that route, but since it's perennially on sale, the aggravation spent just to get 50USD is not worth it to me.

The all-on-one mastering solution is almost superfluous at this point, and you can put some great individual tools together from smaller developers --- who I'd much rather do business with, such as HorNet.

Live and learn; the only positive I'd say it that the marketing people must be relatively good and they should move on to bigger pastures.

Revamping their MIDI and adding all kinds of song writing tools is an excellent idea. Nothing ground breaking on the surface. Am curious to see the nuances of their implementation.

I think what people would really love are updates to Subtractor and Malstrom. Would really do alot to put smiles on old long time customers faces. For me those two synths are still fun to use. They have some unique simple features.

I put off upgrading to v8. So I hope v9 really is coming out soon.

I find it funny that people are still clinging on to hope that propellerhead would have changed much regarding their updates since their last release. I mean, if you were disappointed in 6.5, 7, 7.1, 8, 8.1, 8.2, and 8.3 you got to admit that the odds that you'd be happy with 9 are pretty slim.

I could understand some of the noise before, but since then it's become pretty much clear what their business strategy is, and despite what some people "think", it seems to me that their strategy is working because ultimately A). They are out to make money, and B). If they currently aren't making any money they'd have to change their strategy.

Que the obligatory link to their last annual financial report and ensuing speculation about their economy.

You're right. Also, one has to keep in mind that, basically, if you're still on Reason version 1.0, and upgrade to version 9 now, you get tons of added and improved functionality, for peanuts. I guess, you have to view it from that perspective, not from the perspective that, when you upgrade to the next version, you don't really get much for your 129 €. Probably, they even figured, that many won't always upgrade to the next version, but speculate that some people might skip a version, and then buy the following version.
