Cubase SXXL ?

Cubase SXn series does not significantly compete with Logic. The primary market for Logic is entry-level pro user, like Samplitude, Sequoia, MOTU and entry level Pro-Tools. Steinberg’s primary contender here is Nuendo not Cubase. The real market for Cubase is the pro-sumer middle market, with lower unit prices but substantially more unit sales, and the name of competition is Sonar.
Steinberg’s big problem is market saturation – there are few people entering the market compared with many already in it who are differentiating on brand. IMHO Steinberg are simply attempting to bolster revenues by selling end-of-development software cheap, in order to gain cash. About six months ago I predicted on KvR that Steinberg would be caught in a revenue pinch, particularly if there was a stock market pressure on its parent company’s shares.
Accurum is preparing to diversify into the UK and into India (never good for programmers elsewhere) and is at an ‘inflex’ point in its fiscal development. Not a good time for Steinberg to reap the whirlwind of having pissed off so many users, so absolutely, for so long. It's revenues, stupid.

You may be right it certainly does not sound far fetched but in addition to this Steinberg I think are wary of Live 4 now and I think have already accepted that Logic Pro is ahead anyway.ericj23 wrote: it does not mean they fear logics dominance - thats comes from the underlying notion that somehow businesses fight each other - they are obviously aware of each other but what each business does is whatever it needs to do to make money - what NI, steinberg and apple are doing is bundling old stuff thats sales have dried up on together so they can still generate some revenue - getting rid of the last few disks they have makes space to get some more in stock

OT, but just wanted to say, what would we be doing without Steinberg
? I mean VST, ASIO, it's simply awesome.
Lean and mean plug-in SDK and low latency driver support on windows.

It is true but even EXT is surely now a (very welcome) direct competitor in terms of basic features to Cubase. Many as you know see it as a replacement even.jorgen wrote:OT, but just wanted to say, what would we be doing without Steinberg? I mean VST, ASIO, it's simply awesome.

As at the time of this post the poll shows 23% of people think SXXL is the top package on the PC and an equal 23% think EXT is better!
EXT is now an audio - midi sequencer with features that are hardly entry level for beginners Jorgen.
Keep up the good work.
I assume you voted for your delicate work of art in the poll?

Simple. We'd be using DX and WDM.jorgen wrote:OT, but just wanted to say, what would we be doing without Steinberg? I mean VST, ASIO, it's simply awesome.

Quick update...
Brilliant 46 votes
So only 21% of the votes have gone to Logic Pro I am surprised about that. I thought it would at least get more votes than Cubase. So do most people on KVR think SXXL is better? Interesting
Sonar 3 currently has 19% of the votes another surprise as this is less than EXT which although very popular does not appear to have the big three following yet.Or maybe it does.
Live 4 only 8% of the votes? Hmmmm maybe the hype is over and the novelty has worn off.Or are you all waiting to get your hands on the beta?
2% of the votes for Tracktion? Jules would be very dissappointed.
A bit of a surprise that.
EXT gets a huge 23% for now.Well if the poll is anything to go by then EXT is really hot at the moment and is perceived by a good deal of musicians as being equal or better than Cubase SXXL!
Equal votes for SXXL with 23% as well. Maybe we should replace the picture of Charlie Steinberg posted in this thread with a picture of Jorgen with the rather excellent EXT.
Keep the votes coming...
