I’m planning to go for the K11U upgrade from K9.
I have the option to either purchase the boxed version via Guitar Center or an on-line vendor, or else buy direct from NI and download the products I want.

For those who have the boxed version: I assume that the supplied medium is a removable drive of some kind and probably not an SSD. What is the file structure like? Is there only one install program or many? I will want to make a back-up copy of the installer in case the included drive eventually fails.
(I’ve had that happen on removable drives too many times.)

If I opt for purchasing directly from NI, I assume that the downloaded programs are delivered in iso form. Is that correct? Does NI limit the number of times I would be able to download?

Any thoughts on which way is the better way to go? My main concern is re-installing from scratch in case of necessity.
Thanks

They are not delivered (easily) in iso form. They are installed via Native Access. If you change your download directory to something that you can monitor and you watch it during download you can save the isos as they come down. Some people have reported that it is a real pain if Native Access loses track of your products. I do not find it 100% reliable, that's for sure. I much preferred the old way, however, I still opted for the download and I'm hoping that NI will eventually get their shit together with Native Access. In the meantime, I'm pretty computer savvy so it doesn't concern me that much. If you generally make use of tech support to solve problems, I'd recommend getting the hard disk.

Tomatoes. He only ever eats tomatoes. He cannot understand why anyone would have any interest in anything more elaborate, or just different, when they can get by with tomatoes?

That's impressive. A faddish cereal from Kellogg's that hasn't made since the 90s. Somehow, I am not surprised.

I had muesli, thanks for asking. But I don't think that's going to help people with the questions other people have about whether K11U will be good value to them.

Is such a crosscrade available, and where?

And if you read the OP, you can see the opinions they are after are those based on experience of actually using the stuff in the hope they can extrapolate that to make a decision for themselves.

But Layzer posting across multiple threads, over multiple years, why Komplete, Omnisphere, blah-blah-f**king-blah, is of no value to him, is usually very helpful :tu:

I looked this up for my own edification. I would say no. There are three products, if I've done this right, that are in K11U, that are not in K11 and not in K10U

Emotive Strings
Flesh
Evolve Mutations

Now, if K10U was the first Komplete that you bought, then I don't know if you are elegible for the K11 upgrade, but, K11 (standard) includes

India
Form
Reaktor6
Una Corda

If you don't have Reaktor 6 I would say that the upgrade to K11 is without a doubt worth it, but, an extra c-note just to get the three things listed above in K11U, I know that I wouldn't do that.

Now, if you can't upgrade an older copy of standard to K11 standard, then I don't know because R6 is pretty happening.

This tells me a lot though, it's probably only worth upgrading to ultimate every four versions or so and doing standard upgrades in between.

A good summary. Replica XT may be one dealbreaker for many between the KU10/KU11, too.
