But I'm trying to start a band like NIN... struggling to find a local singer!

Too bad I don't live in your region. NIN is my favorite and Trent Reznor is one of the three things I trained myself to sing by.
Too bad alright, we've been advertising for about six months, I'm beginning to think I'll have to do it myself, I don't want to though, I already sing in another band so I want there to be a point of difference so both bands can play live together... be a bit confusing otherwise.

This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.

Yay, a fellow NIN fan :-)

Another vote for How to Destroy Angels. It's basically a tweaked NIN with a woman vocalist front and center. It's excellent but less aggressive than NIN on average.

This one has a cool video:

Be sure to check out Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross' soundtracks. They're excellent. They're mostly instrumental, and more tame, but stylistically like a cross between The Fragile and Ghosts.

Stabbing Westward might be of interest to you. They didn't really do as intricate sound design as NIN (and the lyrics are sometimes embarrassingly simplistic/trite), but it's aggressive and reminiscent of mid-90s NIN. The last album was ruined by executive meddling but from the first to the second-last album, i feel the sound kicks ass. It's ear candy to my NIN-addicted brain even though it's in a different place.

Here's their first album "Ungod"

I offer up another vote for Gary Numan's newer stuff. Far from being a "NIN tribute act" :-P especially with his unique vocal style. Two examples:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=46kXvXV42Qk

Numan inspired Trent Reznor. In return, Reznor inspired Numan in his later years.

A similar cross-pollination happened with David Bowie. Notable examples are "Outside" and "Earthling".

First track on Outside:

From Earthling:

And then the cross-pollination kicks into full gear: NIN did a reworking of a track from Earthling:

And, if I may do some self-promotion  ... I'm massively influenced by The Fragile, and NIN taught me to love noise. My stuff reflects my influences (though these will sound poor after listening to all of the professional stuff I've listed above  ).

Pissed-off With_Teeth-inspired (w/vocals):

https://m.soundcloud.com/dysamoria/the- ... g-bounce-3

Very Fragile-inspired (instrumental):
https://m.soundcloud.com/dysamoria/wort ... 12-31-2016

A bit less noisy, still Fragile/soundtrack-inspired (instrumental):
https://m.soundcloud.com/dysamoria/the- ... 10-18-2015

Something in-between (w/vocals):
https://m.soundcloud.com/dysamoria/no-p ... 015-demo-2

I wish I had music partners who were into the same kind of stuff (especially someone who rocks at mixing and EQ), but that hasn't come up. No musicians where I live seem to care for this kind of music (or has the skills).

Anyway, I hope this list of stuff gets you some of what you're looking for :-)

Woah, your Nin-inspired tracks are very good

There are loads of bands like NIN. Basically any band he was inspired by/ripped off.

I like his stuff up to and including DS. After that he went on repeat. TR also comes across as a major tit, which doesnt help...

Yip, Ministry are awesome, Psalm 69 is one of those rare albums that's awesome from start to finish, all killer no filler! I first read that as "This band was influenced by NIN"... I was about to say "Ra Ra Ra Ministry are waaaaay older!" :x ... then my reading comprehension improved :hihi: .
Psalm69 is great, but I like Filth Pig even more, it is such an underrated album.

One thing that is amazing with Ministry is how much they changed from album to album

Good to see you mention Consolidated too, they had something cookin' in the early '90s

I'd never heard a single note of NIN music until I followed a short trail at the end of the parody video.

I'm sure I'll get lynched for this, but I thought the parody was better than most of what I heard.

I must be missing something

Yeah, decent music? :hihi:

Naw, I don't like everything but some of it is good. Better than DJ kheled to be sure.

Not at all like Reznor. Electronic industrial, nonetheless.
