Don't scrap Acid! Acid runs awesome with EnergyXT. Just run EnergyXT as a VSYT plugin and you can do anything you want! Before I got Tracktion, I'd jump on the Podium bandwagon. Very stable, has been getting free updates on pretty much a weekly basis. The updates are not to fix bugs, they are more to add features requested by users. Podium will soon have an Effects matrix, for bussing tracks to VST effects. Once that's done, Podium is as good as anything out there IMO!

You really really got to try Podium. That is the first Cubase-like sequencer that has worked well for me. It's incredible, simply put. Don't get scared off by the initial steep learning curve, because that only lasts the first day. After that you'll be wondering why other programs aren't that well designed and simple. I haven't moved to it yet simply because I had just bought Energy XT when Podium came out and I have not been able to justify the expense yet (on a student income anyway) but I will be getting Podium within the next six months FOR SURE, and you should to.

Tracktion is a no-brainer to use, and it does not get in the way of making music. There's no manual, because none is needed. There's no floating windows, because none are needed. There's no mixer, because it's not needed either. There's no nested menus 2-5 layers deep, all not needed. I have no issues with its MIDI editor either, works for me.

The only reason I haven't bought Tracktion yet is because it seems kind of buggy... lots of stuck notes when editing and when I made a drum loop, it skipped some notes on playback... Now I don't use midi as much as I use audio so that's not as much of a problem for me but I also miss quick fade edges and the delete tool from Acid.

Why do you want to leave 5.1? I love it, and it does all that I ask it to. Handles every plug I've thrown at it (except the new phatmatic pro beta). Plus I've used it so long it just feels comfortable, and instead of learning new concepts I can concentrate on making music. or posting here...

yes, definitively, Acip Pro 4 is a really good audio sequencer
it on ly reads (doesn't edit) midi, and is Dx only, but it's easy to use and very efficient !!!

Yes, Podium is phenomenal with multi-track recording. It will cut audio up to 32 bits, I never go beyond 24 though, no need to IMO. The best interface out there among the "all in one" MIDI/AUDIO hosts. The ability to see your volume, pan, and any continuous controllers, written to the screen in realtime, is phenomenal! Better yet they are easily editable! All interfaces should be laid out like Podium! I'm also a big fan of EnergyXT too. Energy is very powerful on its own, but I use it mostly as a plugin inside of Acid 4. I think your learning curve will be a little steeper with EnergyXT. Both are great choices, it's really a matter of preference. I've been a Professional Recording Engineer for 20 years and Podium's environment is very logical and user friendly. When the Effects Bussing is added in the next couple of months, I think Podium will be a step above the rest. It doesn't do everything yet, but what it does, it does flawlessly. Best of all, it is rock solid and extremely hard to get to crash.

And for all the people who complaining about lack of good bounce or freeze function in hosts they also schould check out Podium.
It's bounce concept is the most advanced.
It's difficult to explain if you don't know the Podium concept but simply put you can create bounce tracks (any track can made a bounce track) to wich you stream a midi, audio or any track which is recorded to that bounce track. The concequence is that you can decide for 5 tracks to bounce regions of them and it gets record to 5 different new tracks internally >>> without you have to record from your inputs or have to replace a file with a bounced file.
You draw the region you want to bounce in the bounce tracks and the corresponding subtrack will get recorded to it >> for every track it can be a region on different locations in time in one bouncecycle
Also if you re-record a small part of an already bounced track it gets placed inside the bounced audio. or you can cycle and it gets replaced in realtime
-Podium is highly organized and everything is a "tangile object" (audio, sequence, device, plugin etc etc). Everything becomes an object in a browser.
- parameter/mix automation is superior to most hosts eg no read/write and with spline curves
-Sticky notes
-Stable
-and a lot more
You have to study a few days on it but after you see the concept everything is easy and gives you a structural awareness. And what is a few days. It's quite alarming that people if they don't make it work after a few hours .. they give up.
