Yes.
...and I'm fine with it, particularly when I see what's considered "modern" these days.

Wait, who asked the lady's opinion anyway?jancivil wrote: Tue Oct 23, 2018 3:14 am Ok, I hope that makes my next statement seem less precious: I think of what I do as 21st century music. Even when it isn't.
& I'm a lot older than the people who think they're old up in here.

If my music dates, I will be jealous... Though in reality I want my music to be heard and appreciated - it should be dated...

It's not my fault this language splits males and females into his/her. Actually I left "her" out to protest against it.cryophonik wrote: Thu Oct 25, 2018 5:58 pmWait, who asked the lady's opinion anyway?jancivil wrote: Tue Oct 23, 2018 3:14 am Ok, I hope that makes my next statement seem less precious: I think of what I do as 21st century music. I know where to use his/her etc. I was just being smartass a bit.jancivil wrote: Fri Oct 26, 2018 2:07 pm Some languages split more than a personal pronoun into the two genders.
I'm protesting by not learning them?

Couldnt help but to lol at “Im really tired of my life atm.” I think thats why youre feeling like your music is dated. Prolly midlife crisis? Just make music with a passion and it should come I assume. Just do the music youre passionate about. Ive thought about this for a a couple weeks. Ive been trying to learn my DAW and have spent tons of time on it, getting basics down, reading about how synths work and what not. Made a couple crappy songs that I end up deleting, but I learn something each time. Ive figured that a pro can crank out a top notch song in a day. If thats their job and they did that everyday, they would do hundreds of songs a year. Not aware of any producer who does this lol. So my point is, Im pretty sure even elite producers do much more than produce, and their work is a reflection of themselves. I recall hearing that Paul Van Dyke remixed Love Stimulation when he was depressed as hell. You can hear it in the song as well. One of my colleagues said Eminem was really good when he came first came out but is now trash. I jokingly told him that when he was the least sober lol. Not telling you to do dru gs but, you get the point lol. I think daily life influences music.deep'n'dark wrote: Mon Oct 22, 2018 3:22 pm Thank god you're thinking like that, both of you. I am really tired of my life atm. I'm propably in a need of break. Cheers!
Im into EDM and some of my favorite producers are in their 40’s/50’s. Sasha, Digweed, Oakenfold, Stephan Bodzin. Bodzin is an absolute madman and putting out great stuff right now. Take a break! Came back to your DAW after a month of doing new stuff.

Yes. I try to make classic rock. Classic is a synonym of dated? But some classic rock became pop music. Pink Floyd, for example.

Me being sick of my life has nothing to do with music. Music is transcendent and the reason I continue to live.
I'm with woggle on dated, really. I struck the pose "21st century music" because there are things that can't have happened before this century in terms of sound, and I combine things say in one piece that are unlikely and maybe even novel.
And I use norms, I may pervert them, if not cliche. I don't think using a form from antiquity makes your music antique.
I see in talk of product here that a lot of people seem to wish to reside in an era in the past, nostalgia and a fondness for their most energetic period or somewhat. I think the physical sound can 'date' a track.
EG: Frank Zappa's 1984 band using the DX7 and the Electronic Drums and the sarcastic fake handclap locates many of those live tracks in exactly 1984.

I was ridiculing myself, albeit the ? points back to your statement. Just teasing.

my music often gets compared to 50s-80s scifi
so its dated by what the past thought the future would sound like, so if we split the difference, im in the right place?

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.
