I think one important distinguishing feature of Play Series (Full) vs Play Series Collection got missed here, which is to be able to choose sounds for two sources in the Play Series.

The presets give you everything you need to get started. But Play Series instruments also make it simple to customize sounds for your particular taste.
Start by choosing new sounds for one or both of the sound sources.

I feel the Play Series products are inspired by Output products. Nevertheless, NI has done a great job in making them their own.
And more such instruments are coming in future:

GET READY FOR EVEN MORE PLAYING
With more than 400 presets in total plus fun, easy ways to make sounds your own, the first four Play Series instruments offer some serious creative possibilities. And this is just the beginning. We’re already working on additional offerings that will include lo-fi textures, drums, artist collaborations, and more.
Each future instrument will be just as simple to use. While the framework provides an incredibly flexible environment for developers, it also helps ensure that each Play Series instrument maintains a consistent look and feel. Whether you’re reaching for a wall of modular synths, a spacey soundscape, a hybrid keyboard instrument, or any other instrument that joins the series in the future, you’ll be able to start playing immediately.

This is a new one in the Play Series and must be separately purchased. Other 3 were always a part of Kontakt 6, but are also made available separately now. Hope that clarifies it.

The "selection" is pretty meh TBH. I'm not in any hurry to upgrade to K6 though, so maybe it's better with the real deal.

I think best is to just update/upgrade/crossgrade to one of the Komplete 12 bundles in the next sale if you can. You will get K6, Massive X and of course the 3 Play Series instruments. You would of course know this, but just saying.ghettosynth wrote: Tue May 14, 2019 3:51 am The "selection" is pretty meh TBH. Of course. K6 might force an update. If not, I might wait for K13. I'm not chomping at the bit for new instruments though TBH.LoveEnigma18 wrote: Tue May 14, 2019 5:29 amI think best is to just update/upgrade/crossgrade to one of the Komplete 12 bundles in the next sale if you can. I was just expressing how meh I thought the "selections" were. Reminds me of the new approach that Arturia is taking with their choice to only put a handful of the new presets in Analog Lab, they end up with some pretty generic presets.

Yeah, I do understand your point. Selections are just to give a taster pack after all. And even the full Play Series bits only would not a motivation to update to Kontakt 6 (either way), although I do like this idea and the sounds. But there is a strong reason to update if you are on Komplete 10 or below (I am). There's so much stuff they have added and I am definitely planning to update to Komplete 12. If nothing, the primary motive for this would be the 50% off sale. If you let go this sale, there might be one more opportunity to get it during the Thanksgiving XXL sale if they repeat what they did last time. Other than that, if you wait for K13 which will probably be out in 2020, the 50% sales will be in 2021, so it is just a long waiting period.ghettosynth wrote: Tue May 14, 2019 6:03 amOf course. My plan to update/upgrade to one of the K12 bundles and then skip 13 and even 14 perhaps. For small bits that I am interested in, I can use some e-vouchers (at least you will get one with the K12 update) and play with them. The stuff that is in K12 is already too overwhelming in my opinion.
Just some thoughts.

Is anyone else finding that the Play Series instruments are CPU-heavy? I like the sounds but they seem to take much more processing power than other Kontakt instruments. Is it because of their heavy use of effects?

Yeah, if Replika delay is in the patch, it can eat a bit of extra CPU.

now they updated it, looks better, but many patches quite cpu heavy. Then I go to the fx page, turn them down, and it sounds too weak
