Who will be first to implement some form of take comping/management? Live or Bitwig?
There's something to be said about just nailing a performance with a punch-in or two. But it's handy to have a few takes stashed away down the road, when reality sometimes sets in that a part could have been better ("it sounded mint on the spot").

Agree, one can dream, but if they could give option for live/real-time and studio mode, than employ all those Cubase/Logic/REAPER tricks to save up resources in studio mode.apoclypse wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:33 pm Bitwig really needs to do something about their DSP usage.

While obviously not an ideal solution, you can achieve it in Bitwig as follows:zentatonic wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:51 pm Who will be first to implement some form of take comping/management? Live or Bitwig?

- in Clip Launcher view arm a track and set Post-Recording Action to move to next clip afer specified ber count; record
- once all takes are captured in separate clips, move each clip to its own audio track
- group the tracks
- select the tracks, show Edit panel and switch it to layered editing - you should see all your takes together, layered one on top of another, mute each of the clips
- select zero-length time on ruler (using Time Selection tool [2]) and hit Del to split audio clips on all tracks in the same place - repeat until you've separated all important parts
- now unmute segments on each track that you want to 'promote' to be your comped audio
- once you have that, Time Select region on your Group track and bounce it in place
- done
Yeah it's obviously a needlassly long process but if audio recording & comping isn't the main thing you do in your music, it should be alright considering how Bitwig saves time in many other areas of sound design, modulation, synthesis, etc.

Do we have any official news of new stuff from ableton or NI?

Have you guys demoed Bitwig recently? I just got into a conversation with someone about this and retested the latest version of Bitwig against Logic, Reaper, and DP10. It utterly skunks them in track counts, which it clearly never did before. I'm shocked at how under the radar this is going. Playing an eighth note run with Diva I could only get 11 instances in Logic and DP, 12 in Reaper, and 24 in Bitwig.Passing Bye wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 7:42 pmAgree, one can dream, but if they could give option for live/real-time and studio mode, than employ all those Cubase/Logic/REAPER tricks to save up resources in studio mode.apoclypse wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:33 pm Bitwig really needs to do something about their DSP usage.
I'm on OS X and in the Activity Monitor you can clearly see that Bitwig runs each instance of Dive as a separate process directly to the OS. Handing over CPU handling to the OS makes so much sense when you watch Logic, Reason and DP barley use all cores and still fail. Cool stuff, I'm seriously thinking of switching to Bitwig now.

I dont think you do any music otherwise you wouldnt have time to worry about such thingsrmacattack wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2019 11:52 pm Who are you looking forward to as far as DAW releases? I do electronic/pop music. So for me I think the most exciting will be the following:
1. Ableton-New Live and Push controller possibly?
2. Native Instruments-Maschine/Komplete Kontrol with arranger improvements.
3. Logic X-It's apple....
4. Studio One 5-Will depend on who they target. Either engineers or producers/songwriters. A pro tools/cubase influenced release won't get as much attention as a NI or Ableton release. Basing this where the industry is right now.
5. Imageline-Has grown so much, and continues to dominate the Electronic/hip hop audience. Plus now we have up and comers scoring with it!

I’m Bitwig user, I did shootout 2 months ago, because fairly small project with few Diva’s on draft gave me spikes, same project in Cubase used ~15-20% less CPU, it’s on Windows tho, I know they messed with macOS version recently, so it’s good to hear awesome results.

Yeah things, are, strange? On my desktop Mac Pro from 2009 (modified heavily 12 core 3.33 CPU), I'm getting absolutely ridiculous results, like well over 24 instances of Diva. On a 2012 Macbook Pro 2.7 4 core, faster RAM. I'm getting 4, that's right 4. It's just, weird? Something about the macbook Bitwig doesn't like, something about the Mac Pro, Bitwig loves unconditionally.Passing Bye wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2020 9:30 amI’m Bitwig user, I did shootout 2 months ago, because fairly small project with few Diva’s on draft gave me spikes, same project in Cubase used ~15-20% less CPU, it’s on Windows tho, they messed with macOS version recently, it’s good to hear the results.
In contrast, DP gets 8 on the macbook and only 11 on the Mac Pro... Seems DP can us 8 processes on the Macbook and only more or less 12 on the Mac.

Seen some real world DAW testings, seems like Xeon’s multi core performance is quite awesome on macOS, no wonder, it’s what OSX was mostly used for decade and guess they optimized heavily for it.

I still have hope for a Logic 10.5 finally around winter NAMM which then should be the biggest update since the first Logic Pro X.....but maybe there will be nothing big again this year. Not interested in other DAW´s really until i will switch my OS (who knows).

Could care less about the Music Software , there is nothing ground breaking ? .... I wanna see what Sony PlayStation 5 , Microsoft Xbox series X , AMD , Intel , and Nvidia do , GPU and CPU wise before I build my next PC .....

I hope they take all the time in the world to the next version. I really don't want a release cycle same as with Cubase...Kalamata Kid wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2020 12:10 am Studio One 5 release Late May 2020.

I don't think anyone benefits from a handful of new features, which they can also squeeze into a non-paid upgrade. Otherwise, I will simply not update, and go on using my version.
