The instructions page is now much more clearly constructed and informative - thanks. :tu:

I'm not a Rabbit, but have been known to munch on a carrot or three - hopefully I'll be chewing my way through Vector today complete with a side dish of carrots.

Same here. After following the discussions on KVR I'm really looking forward to getting my copy of Fathom Vector.
Mentioned it several times earlier - But I think Fathom Synth is one of the most responsive and community aware Devs out there. And with all the details in the posts I can tell a real music and dsp nerd (in a positive sense!) with brains and skillz! Go get Fathom Vector!

I want to know what it is. I take the red pill and I want to know how deep the rabbit hole goes. :D

Post

Thanks!

The rabbit hole goes pretty deep.

Metamorphic Oscillator

The metamorphic oscillator has 16 pages of parameters all devoted just to one oscillator. And you all know how many dials are on a single page of Fathom so multiply that by 16. All the dials can be modulated.

It also has a double wave with a morph dial so you can also use it as a simplified wave table in addition to all the other parameters.

Fathom Mono

Something very important I forgot to mention. All the features have been put back into Fathom Mono. So if you are new user downloading Fathom Mono will be a whole new experience.

What happened here is about a year ago I took a lot of features out of Fathom Mono since I did not think enough people had the motivation to go from Mono to Pro. But the problem is in reality it had the opposite effect since then new users simply did not see the features and actually had less reason to go from Mono to Pro.

So with this release I'm trying something new. I put all the features back into Mono except the Fathom Vector features. It will be very interesting to see what impact that has.

Those of you who run web sites and YouTube channels may want to take another quick look at Fathom Mono since it might be back to being the most powerful free synth available at the moment.

Exactly, and try working 16 hours a day for five years straight and risk your entire life on one project and then have someone post your software everywhere for free because you trusted everyone with only a zip password and you don't have any license system. Ah, yes, the good old days.

Hello? The license is a one button press.

Not only that but for three years everyone has been begging me for an installer and now they have one.

Instead of trolling my thread why not do something productive and actually try using the product.

I'm not trying to be rude, I just think people need to get on board with the importance of protecting software against people who get a big kick out of trying to destroy small companies. Every one benefits if a company survives and can continue to add new features for all users worldwide.

I would love it if licensing were not necessary.

But that is not reality.

Of course its important to protect yourself against piracy. It happens all the time. But it would be better with an easy system like 'log into your account to download your serial' or something. Just an idea. Only you know what is best.

Is there a demo version of the full featured polyphony Vector to test if my CPU can get along with it (no matter if there were silence every few seconds as demo restriction)? Or only Fathom Mono?

Post

Installed Fathom Vector some minutes ago.

Installation and getting the License was easy. Okay, not a real "installer" but a installation helper. In a upcoming release it could probably become a full blown signed installer ... only just a little side note.

Opened the GUI, dropped a Metamorphic Oscillator, got to detune and dialed in 8 Voices.
Pressed a key and was impressed! It's a difference like between day (fathom) and night (surge). Im currently working on a track with the fabulous open source synth surge (One Synth Challenge) ... but surges unisono sounds weak and blurry compared to that of Fathom Vector. Additionaly added distortion and this is even better ... better as well as distortion modes in surge.
I own quite a few other commercial synths and my first impression is that Fathom is level up with top notch synths.

In terms of CPU - everything seems quite low on CPU. There's not a big peak in BitWigs CPU meter.

That's just a first impression. Me quite impressed and looking forward to digging deeper.

That post made my year. Thanks!

Tricky-Loops, great question. Technically no, there is no demo version of Fathom Vector. However, there are a couple ways to "cheat" and get a very good idea of what will work on your system.

1. The Intel AVX Parallel processing in the members Pro AVX release is exactly the same as Fathom Vector. Same code. So if Pro AVX runs on your system then Fathom Vector will also.

2. You can actually run the metamorphic oscillator if you are clever. Fathom Mono and Fathom Pro AVX will allow you to load presets with the Metamorphic Oscillator and use them. It will even allow you to save those tracks to the host so you can make a song out of presets and not lose the presets in your host project.

You will not be able to save your own presets with the Metamorphic Oscillator unless you have Fathom Vector or start new tracks with it. But you can at least try it out with its full power.

To get the Metamorphic presets you will need to buy Trance Warehouse, but it is a lot cheaper than buying Vector to start with.

Post

So to try Vector we need to buy an update to Pro and also a preset pack... :dog:

Post

I'm maximally confused now because I thought the AVX Parallel Processing Update is only available (for free) if I bought Fathom Pro before the Vektor release...which I didn't...

It's not included in Fathom Mono?

So the only thing I could demo is Fathom Mono without the AVX Parallel Processing?

Or I have to buy the AVX Parallel Processing for Fathom Mono...

And I need to buy a preset pack to test the new oscillators?

Isn't it possible - at least within a few months - to make a Vector demo version with some silence introducing (less irritating than noise)?

You don't have to fear that I crack it because I'm not even a programmer. I don't even use a single cracked program because my opinion is that software developers should get paid for working many years fulltime.
